Calling out bad Autoflower genetics/actors

Bald Monkey has a strain called Thai Passion that uses a landrace Thai that auto flowers as the source… :pass:

I believe he might have used the Thaipan haze or Thaipan 2.0..I think it might have also been called dragon race haze.
I still have a few packs and a few hybrids but I have yet to grow them out.

I see a lot of " if it's an auto, it's not the real thing!" So what? Prove to me the auto is not the equal to or even superior to the original. This goes back to what I posted about clone only. The mythos has people believing that ONLY that clone is worthy of being allowed to grow. This is also what has led to the whole fem seeds bulshit. What do fem only strains get you? nothing.... your ability to choose a phenotype that YOU may find superior is lost, or more truthfully, taken away from you. And that's the big rub here to me. Just because Joe Blow breeder thinks his selection is the cat's ass, doesn't mean it is. But because canna culture is rife with bullshit, people have been convinced that certain breeders are canna gods. It makes me want to puke! I grow Brandywine tomatoes from seed I save. I got my starter seed from Seed Saver seedbank. I grow some damn fine Brandywines. But you don't see gardeners growing cuttings of other people's plants and paying a stupid premium for them!
Then there's the fact that clones can express genes other than those of the original clone. Cannabis is a highly adaptive plant and unless you mimic the exact environment that the original grew in, you've no guarantee that your clone will grow the same.
At least with regular seed, to have not only the option to pheno hunt, you are provided a selection. And let's face it, whithin a known population, the bud will be good fro all plants, or it wouldn't be out there to grow. I was given some weed once to make RSO with, for someone with cancer. It wasn't very good. I saved a few seeds because it may have been just poorly grown ( VERY poorly grown... ) but nope, it was about as good as Mexican brick weed.... seeds went into the worm bin! And this is what happens to truly bad weed. There is very little of that going around anymore. Yes, you may find some that you consider hohum, but it may light someone else's fire. I rate my weed by if I'd grow it again. I've got about 10 out maybe 150 strains I've grown that I have grown twice 6-8 that I've grown 3 times or more. Is it the best pot on the market because I love it? No! Because there is no "best"! It is however, damned good weed and many agree with me. People beg me for my Blue Dragon. And I had one person who said it didn't get him high and thought it was crap. Who's right? Everyone! People talk about and immediately forget about how terpene profiles affect the SMOKER. This is why the government uses info like this against people who believe in herbal medicine, and we can't ise the word, medicine with anything herbal. because just like clone only canna, their mindset says it must be an exact copy of the of the ingredients every time and we all know that's not how herbs work.

And in a properly bred auto, the amount of Ruderalis remaining in an auto should be minimal and has little to no bearing on the final outcome. The whole idea of breeding is to filter out the traits you don't want and enhance those you do. That said, VERY few do it correctly unfortunately.
I'ce seen negative comments on here about FastBuds. You can believe whatever you want, but if you have doubts, ask the company directly about the source of their genetics. I've found them to be pretty straight forward when asked questions. And I've grown 4 of their strains and found them to be very good. I especially love their Blue Dream and Mexican Airlines. And I really don't care where they got their mother plants, what I car about is the quality of the buds their plants produce. Anyone who wants to spend $5000 - $10,000 for that "special clone" have at it! A fool and his money are soon parted! Give me some good, regular seed and I guarantee I'll find a plant worthy of breeding/ cloning for my use.
It's sad there are so few auto regs.............

And the autoflower gene is not exclusive to Ruderalis, some and possibly many, southeast Asian strains have an auto gene. For whatever reason, it is harder to isolate in those landrace/wild strains. Imagine using a Cambodian wild strain for it's autoflower genes! It could be done, but no one has the patience to do so and or find that plant with that gene. Ruderalis is merely convenient.

We share many of the same opinions..its refreshing to see someone who shares the same thoughts..kudos.

I tried to grow a couple recently but didn’t get a lady…. I’ll get back around to trying again eventually :pass:

I can give a bit more info on that, sort of know the strains.
that thai autoflower part in thaipassion indeed comes from thaipan 2.0.

I once had seeds of thaipan 2.0, seedlings didn't make it though. Was one of my first years growing. the story about that strain was that someone who traveled to thailand encountered an autoflower plant there, i.e. supposedly it is an autoflowering variation within the thai landrace genepool, not related to lowrider.
but that's the story, you know how it goes with the origin stories of weed strains, you never know if it's truth or just someone who thought it sounded cool.

the thaipan is not the only autoflower in thaipassion btw, it also contains short term amnesia. (thaipassion I also grew btw, in later years when I was a bit more experienced growing, and those I did finish to harvest. don't remember that much about it though since it's quiet a while ago)

Hey @Les @HLG I agree with what your saying and have the same sentiments. I was listening to a canna podcast the other day with some small breeders talking about people getting seed stock and breeding for what they like. Getting those clone only strains is what someone else liked the best. I think what your getting at and I'm of the same opinion is picking what works for me. I've still lots of searching to do but thats the fun part for me. Finding the perfect effect...some nice anti anxiety bliss mixed with a bit of pain relief is what I'm after. I'd never pay for a clone. Maybe try some for free but even then idk that's space from my search. Happy growing and hunting friend.

I'm sure you've all had breeders pop up on your Facebook feed. They post pics of amazing plants and some pretty hardcore bud porn. It piques your curiosity so you message them and start asking questions. I personally always ask questions about lineage and always either get a pic of badass plants in response or a change in conversation. They'll typically chat you up for an extended period of time and continue sending pics and if you really pay attention they're likely not of the same grows/locations/people. Still impressive nonetheless. I've had them converse with me for several days, often messaging me very early in the morning. Once you ask about how they take payment most will send their cash app name immediately, no website. The seeds are usually very cheap and it's hard not to pull the trigger. Sometimes less than a dollar each due to this months big promotion. Once you send payment you'll sometimes get a tracking number for shipping, then not another message. Even if you message them. I've had this same experience so many times I've lost track. The only breeder that has popped up on my feed that I can say is 100% legit is Brother Mendel, they're beans are NOT cheap, but worth the money. They also have a website.

All that being said, I have had pretty good luck so far with these cheap unknown breeder seeds. I can pretty much guarantee they're pollen chucking some of our favorite big name auto strains/genetics, actually selling quality seeds. Just nothing of their own creation. I don't feel like I've been ripped off yet, but I definitely feel like these purchases are not what I'm being told they are. For $1 a seed I will probably continue buying them until I feel like I've been ripped off. I just bought 4 5 packs plus freebies and some extra photo freebies for $40 from a "breeder" in OK that I had the exact same experience with. This guy at least told me his name though and a little about his family LOL. The auto strains he's selling do sound very interesting, 2 XL sativa strains x with Blueberry and an Indica strain. And they're regs, not fems.

To be fair, I wouldn't say posting pics with different locations is immediately a red flag. Look at all the pics posted in grow and shows here, if they're having people test grow their buds that would make sense. But, it does make sense to be cautious if your spidey senses start tingling.

When they’re posting pics saying it’s their grow and it’s geographically different that’s what throws me off. I could show you what I mean but I don’t want to put anyone out there. But I definitely get what you’re saying as well.

Ah yeah, thats a different story lmao. Transparency in business is super important and if someone is gonna lie to try to make a sale I've got zero interest in supporting them.
