I had about 1oz of really good trim (sugar leaves and some buds ) and 0.6oz of not so good trim and was planning on making some cannabutter with it but decided on canna-oil instead. After reading wayyyy too many threads on making it, I decided to try the pressure cooker. While there were some good threads about having very good success with a pressure cooker, there were a whole lot more threads questioning if it would work or not - so I decided to find out for myself.
Though not called for and hopefully not something that screwed this up, I decided to go ahead and do the decarboxylation process 1st.
So, here si what I did and hopefully I will come back and update my result.

Trim - 1.6oz, very moist as it has been kept in canning jars waiting for the right time
1. Preheated oven to 220
2. spread trim on cookie sheet, put it in the oven for 20 minutes.
3. Removed from oven, crumbled it up in my hands into fine and put it into a mason jar
Probably stupid, but I just can't ever wrap my brain around using a grinder as I am always thinking about those beautiful trichs falling off. I figured doing it by hand over the jar at least they would fall into the jar.
4. poured 1 1/2 cups of canola oil into mason jar and mixed it all up. Seemed like I could have used a bit more oil but I didn't want to dilute it too much since only 1 oz was really good trim. It was enough tho where all of it was submerged and covered in oil.
5. Placed mason jar in pressure cooker (don't put jar right on bottom, use the stand or at least a towel or the jar could break)
6. Turned the heat on high and waited until the weight started moving around, then turned down heat and let it "cook" for 20 minutes. Having used the pressure cooker before for canning, I knew where to turn the heat down so the weight was still moving around.\
7. After 20 minutes of 15 psi, removed from heat
8. Right now I am waiting for it to cool down as I let it cool down and release pressure naturally.
Now supposedly it should be good to go now. I am not sure yet but I may put the oil surry in a pan and simmer it on very low heat for a while. I do not want to over cook it and have it lose potency (if the pressure cooker worked) but since it was in the pressure cooker, I couldn't stir it up like I wanted to.
Will make that decision shortly.

Hopefully will update later and let you know it is awesome, or not so good

man, it has taken me about 30 minutes of fumbling around just to do this.......

okay, finally coming down enough to post this.I ended up NOT simmering it, I just went ahead and "collected" the oil and made brownies.
At this point I just needed to strain the oil and I was using coffee filters. Man, what a mess and worse, I ended up wasting a lot of what I now know is really good oil.
I was putting some in a coffee filter and then squeezing the filter to drain it. Of course this now meant my hands were covered in oil. I then put on some latex gloves. It worked better but I was still wasting a lot of the oil.
When I do this again, and I will do it again  I think I am just going to let it settle and then take as much oil as I can using a syringe (I have 25g needles and syringes for testosterone shots) squeeze it out with a spoon and repeat as many times as I can by spooning it out and squeezing...
anyway, I am still really stoned as you can tell - I ended up with a little over 1 cup and proceeded to make a box of ghiraardo brownies that have the carmel and nuts. 50 minutes at 325. The dish was 8 x 8 and I cut the brownies into 9 pieces. One side was larger and I had the largest of these with 2 big scoops of vanilla ice cream......man it was good.
About an hour later, it was yea, I think this is working okay. About 2 hours later it's like "fuck, yeaaa"

I would recommend this to anyone and the only thing I will do different next time is find a better way to "squeeze" the oil without wasting so much.

So if you take an ounce of really good trim and .6oz's of not very good trim
Preheat the oven to 220. Place weed on cookie sheet, bake for 20 minutes.
Crumbling by hand, crush up the weed over your jar so any trichs that fall, fall into the jar (just my own opinion there)
Pour 1 1/2 cups of canola oil over weed and stir it all up. You may need to add a little extra, but don't use much more. As long as it is all in some oil
Pressure cook at 15psi for 20 minutes.
I let the pressure cooker cool by itself, say about an hour or so. I did not remove the weight, just let it cool down by itself.
Drain the oil from the weed

and I can state for a fact that 1/3 cup in ghirardi brownie mix cooked at 325 for about 50 minutes gets you a fantastic fucked up.

It took me about 15 minutes just to write this, I am still pretty messed up hours later.

This is more like taking a chemical drug then smoking it. Lasts unbelievably longer, helps pain much better. It's like a took a pill that had a decent dose of Adderall mixed in with some really nice downer that doesn't make you tired, but just really relaxes you - and you really want to do things. Would be awesome if you were younger and headed out for a weekend night at a club, bar etc....

anyway - worked for me. 1st edibles and I LOVE it.

Interesting. I've never tried a pressure cooker but it kind of goes counter to how I understand the process. Normally slow cooking is recommended so that the trichomes have time to break down and be absorbed by the oil. As such it's not necessary to do anything, like freezing, to separate the trics from the vegetable matter. Even still attached they will still be broken down. While you did get a good high, I'm thinking by cooking it so fast you may not have gotten the most out of it. It would be interesting to do an experiment using the same weed, some in a crock pot and some in a pressure cooker. See which is stronger. I'm thinking it would be the slow cooked.

May I suggest a potato ricer for your next round as far helping getting the most of oil back....

This is what Root_66 uses, with a cheese cloth instead of coffee filter, it allows more to pass through quicker.

Also, I have used cheese cloth and a rolling pin

I am sure most would know that the crockpot method is how I do my oil as well. Of course the effects we are goin' for are a bit different so my temps are not the same. There is some good information on Decarboxylization (sp) here on this site.

Check out our Medical Section of the forums for medically specific recipes as well as here in the hash/oil and medibles.

I would be interested in a comparison as well.

But I think you are doing great work, pay it forward

I know this is a super old thread, but I’m replying just to let people know that this works very well in an electric pressure cooker as well. I have an Instant Pot and chronic pain, which is why I started using pot. I know that probably makes me “meh” to some people, but whatever. One thing is does make me is someone who is innovative and doesn’t accept someone else’s word for that can’t be done.

On my first grow I had some freebie seeds, so I planted three. Damned Larry (of Larry, Moe, and Curly fame...Curly, I might add, was a grower AND a show-er) turned out to be a male. Guess I shouldn’t have given them boy names, so I moved him into my greenhouse and let him grow. I decided to see if his leaves were worth anything, even though I’d read a gazillion times there is little to no ThC in the leaves.

I also read a million times that pressure cookers don’t work as well as crock pots. Well I’ve made crock pot budder at least 15 times. I like a DIY and to save money, plus my nephew had given me 12 oz of trim when he’d had a big grow because he loves me VERY much, so I had a lot of trim and some decent Dutch Treat buds to make a lot of budder with.

So I didn’t have a lot to lose. I stripped Larry. He had about 40 grams of leaves on him. I got as much pollen as I could as well, although he’d already spilled most of his seed in the greenhouse, making a mess for me to clean little bastard. I added a bit of ABV, but not enough to make a big difference.

I happened to find this post and a few others. So I followed it:

A few modifications:

1. I dried to leaves and removed all the stems for tea. I use my Ninja to chop them all up, and then rinse it with clear filtered water and use that to top off the jars so all the trichs get in there.
2. I did not declarb. I had read different opinions and decided to go without it on this experiment.
3. Used butter on about half and coconut oil on the other half, added a little water to each
4. My butter happens to be homemade, which means it has a higher water content, so next time I’ll reduce it to Ghee first (which I happen to be doing right now as I’m doing a second batch but this time with trim from my final harvest)

Filled pint jars, sterilized, 2/3 full coconut oil with 1/4 of my dried matter
Set the Instant Pot (or whatever brand of electric multi-pot pressure cooker you have) to manual for 20 minutes
Let it run at natural release
Strained with butter muslin, which you can buy on Amazon. A jelly bag works great too. I have one, but it’s gone on walkabout to find itself, I am assuming, because I can’t find it and there are only two of us in this house.

Let me tell you, Larry is legen-wait for it-dary. Yes, he was so amazing I had to make a corny dad joke. Holy crap. I made him into “bullets” I call them. I poured him into little 1/2 tsp servings in a silicon thingy meant for candies. I drop one in my coffee or cocoa and I am done for the night. Even my nearly 300 pound husband is out like a lamp with those (not like sleep, but stoned). He uses them for his arthritic knees. He’s got bad arthritis really young, which sucks hard. He hates to use, but even he’ll say “I think I’m going to need Larry tonight.” Larry is amazing for a good time, and sometimes it no longer invited to do certain things, like join us for s’mores after I ended up giggling so much I was covered in marshmallow.

So I can attest to it working very well, male plants, at least this one, do carry a good amount of THC, and in this case either deoxycarbolization wasn’t necessary due to the process, or maybe if I HAD de-carbed, Larry would literally put me on the moon.

This next batch is going to be made into caramels (I have some ghee made with trim from Gorilla Glue [HASHTAG]#4[/HASHTAG]) and then I’m not sure what else.

Oh and my percentage was what I normally use, about 10 grams of dried matter to 100 grams of oil and top off with water. This is by weight, not volume.
