Lighting Chickenfeet GN HS1 Shenanigans

Hey man, good to see another new grower using HS1's. I'm sure you'll be impressed even if you're not already.

All the knowledgeable types appear to have you covered advice wise but if you dont mind I'll tag along and see how you go.

My one lukewarm tip: I deal with knowing when to water by using a cheap moisture/ph/light probe thing, the PH and light are badly calibrated and pointless, but it lets you tell when the soil is dry at the base of the pot/roots.

Thanks for the tip, i'll look into a moisture probe :)

So i got the temp up over the last few days, simple really, i just turned of the fan which was sucking out all the warm air, I already have a tube heater so the temp has gone up to 25C and humidity is at 60%, plants are looking better already. Will try getting some photos tomorrow.

Don't forget about air circulation. If the airs too cold thats being exchanged consider a fan controller that will drop fan speed when temps dip too much. In conjunction with a heater you should be able to get a stable temp and maximum air flow.

Yeah saving for a fan speed controller ATM. Hopefully will get a new (second hand) tent soon too then I can start getting this all dialed in :D

and in other news as promised I got a few more photo's to show a bit of progress

So I've been busy over the weekend, germinating 3 more seeds using a method i found on this site. Basically the tissue paper method but put the seeds in a sealed plastic container and leave it on top the cable box. They popped within 24 hours :D

Straight into the soil this time

Below is how my plants look, i had to remove the box the big one was standing on as it was getting too tall, Its about 12" from the soil to the top of the canopy now, the runt is about 6" tall but not showing any pistols yet.

Look at the three new pots behind (getting excited), i hope my mate lets me have his old tent soon or i will have to throw some away as there will be no room left in that home made tent, well if they start growing that is.

So i got a question for you more experienced Auto growers, obviously if you have read through this diary then you will know already that i didn't record the exact time my first seeds popped their heads up above ground so i have been guessing how old they are up to now. What do you guys think, looking at the photos below should i be feeding them bloom or carry on with veg ?

Thanks in advance

Looking spot on brother! Those lights are killer.. I'm jealous! I always took it that with autos, you don't start bloom nutes until end of stretch, but please get some more opinions from the wiser peeps here.

Nice grow man. :Sharing One:

I always use that method but i put it on the water heater. Generally 100% germ.

hey thanks. I thought the same thing, the advise from plagron http://www.plagron.com/nl-nl/1/47/downloads.aspx is to switch after two weeks but i'm guessing thats for photos and not autos, its always good to get advise from different sources :D

yeah man i did that the last time and had 100% results but wanted to try this method and they popped within 24 hours, its all good :D

Hey Chickenfeet, loving your set up and choice of strains, its all good. Here is the story there are two methods on which most people use here on the AFN for changing to bloom nutes that i will share with you.

  • Wait ten days after the plant has shown sex to switch to bloom nutes
  • wait till vertical growth has stopped almost completely and then switch to bloom nutes.

I have tried both and i must say i havent seen any difference at all.
Most people will try to tell you if you leave her on the veg nutes longer than the ten days after sex rule. the plant will go for longer than the 60-70 days. Most people think if you change ten days after showing sex that she will finish in the advertised time that the seed bank states.
In reality none of these are true, nutreints cannot make a plant veg or bloom for longer its all about the genes of that certain strain.
So regardless what time you switch to bloom nutes the plant is stll going to do what its is progamed to and will finish when it wants to. Some plants will finish sooner 60-70 days and some can take up to 100 days or more to finish.

Sorry about the long rant man i just thought you might want to know and to stop you from worrying about it too much later.
So really anytime between the two main methods is a good time to switch, the choice is yours man.

No i don't mind the rant, i prefer to have all the information i can get so thanks for sharing.

So basically whatever i do i cant really mess it up, yay ! :D

I'll probably keep both original plants on the same squedual then, even with one a little behind the other, i'm lasy and that sounds like a plan so i don't have to waste time mixing up two different feeds.

For the next three (or how ever many make it through) i might even do something really crazy like feed one on canna nutes as i have some left here one on the same feed squedual i'm growing with now and one i can just piss on it haha just for research purposes :D
