ok guys i got a 400w hps grow kit (non air cooled reflector its set 20' from my red plastics cups i have them filled with maricale grow and all seeds that have sprouted, they are going to be on a 24 hour light period until i get my first 5 star (i was told then to switch to 18/6, then 12/12 for flowering)? is this correct, and also i have the ballsat in the room with a big square fan but the temp is at 86-88 i cant keep it down bc i dont have loads of money to spend for an air cooled reflector all the help is needed on light cycle/keeping it cool thanks guys and gals

Hey there Gtg

From what I read it's not "good" to use miracle grow as soil as it may be too hot for your seedlings and it doesn't flush properly
You may be wasting light on seedlings, you could use a lower wattage light(s) then power up your 400 watter when the time is ready.
I'm guessing you will be growing auto's if so:
If you put them under 12/12 you will lose yield. It's a good idea to keep them at 16/8 - 20/4

all my brother uses is maricale grow and he has good yeilds, so keep it at 24hrs on until iget my first 5 star then go to 16/8? then 20/4?

Well if you wanna get better yields than ur bro don't use miracle grow with autos, it contains time release nutes not ideal for this variety. I run my lights 24/0. Some believe autos do better with a lil rest.. 18/6 and 20/4 are common times used with autos, both should do you good.

your plan works , it has all the basic elements for success....solid genetics....a good light...soil? if it causes no problems and you don't mind the chem taste in your finished bud...and a fan to move the hot air away from the sprouts...
with temps as high as you're dealing with...the little sprouts really struggle....maybe another fan circulating fresh air over the plants..or..a small fan aimed up towards the light bulb..to blow heat up and away....either way the temps should come down.
the light schedule is correct...I'm supposing that's what the breeder recommended...24/0 to start...then 18/6 for a month of veg...and 12/12 to finish up...
is it possible to re-locate that hot ass ballast outside the grow area...running 24/0 now you really need to keep temps down or growth will suffer...
if it just wont get under 80f in there...I would cut down on the light hours....try 20/4 or 18/6.

I am not going to advise you to monitor the ph of your soil...I know the time release ferts in MG soil make close ph control impossible....the time-release ferts are released every time you water and they also dissolve above 80f soil temp...so you would be fighting a double whammy of ph swings...

other than a couple easy fixes everything sounds like you will have some lemony goodness in about 4 more months....happy growing!!

thanks alot hereb4 yea the ballast is hot as fuck, ferts are gonna be easy foxfarm and superthrive i got 2 seedlings that just popped up waiting for the seed to open and they actually sprout, i will remove the ballast from the room this weekend, as for fan i got a big boc fan i may get a small fan that circulates and put it right under the light facing the plants i will also cut light down this weekend to 20/4 i want them to flower/bud when their about 4ft tall so i will force flower them 12/12 when their about 3 1/2 feet as some grow more when the flower/bud this plant is known to get 7ft tall outside its got good genetics

the 2 seedlings jsut cracked out of the seed well are starting to my last water i took a 16oz soda and put half a teaspoon or so of superthrive in it adn barely game them each a teaspoon or 2 of the mix

noww idk if i am suspose to feed them the superthrive yet, but it was a very little ammount like i said i took a 16oz bottle and filled full of water put a little superthrive in it shook it and barely gave the 2 plants some and its 30m later and the one seed has already cracked good
