Hey folks. New journal for a new run. Gonna try to keep this short and sweet, but I'm fairly medicated so apologies if I ramble. :smoking: Like the title says, time around I'll be running two Double Grape, lit with two of @BigSm0 's Autocobs.

Light schedule: Autocobs - 24/0
Nutes: 3/4 strength Lucas-ish formula (maxibloom/Armor Si/CALiMAGic/Mammoth P) with a bit of KoolBloom powder added in at the finish. I'm testing a theory that my full strength nute schedule is overkill in my setup. We shall see!
Pot Size/Medium: 2 gallon Hempy Bucket w/100% Growstones (Mix This! size)

Seeds were started in soaked/ph'd rockwool late on the 10th. Thing 1 emerged on the 13th. Thing 2 had some issues due to my screw-up and had to be re-started in fresh rockwool. She popped on the 17th and had a bit of a slow start (again, my problem, not anything Mephisto did) but she seems to be catching up. Will be potting her up tomorrow and getting her set up in the tent alongside Thing 1, with pics to follow.

For now, have a pic of Thing 1. She'll be a week old tomorrow and has been getting 16-20oz of the 3/4 strength nutes since being potted up. So far I'm liking how she looks!

Thanks for the tag @ANTiFA these hempy buckets are interesting. I just bought these pots but it has multiple holes. Would this work for a hempy bucket? I just did a little search that says to just drill one small hole on the bottom but I'm not sure. I like the fact that's it reusable if using 100% perlite is that true? Maybe a 6 plant hempy bucket grow for me next? :smoking:

No problem man, thanks for stopping by! Unfortunately those types of pots won't work for Hempy-style growing. I use two-gallon buckets like this: http://bit.ly/2vcQNba And drill a 3/8" hole about 2" up from the bottom. That is, there are zero holes on the bottom like most pots have - just one on the side. The whole idea of Hempy is that it's hand-watered hydroponic growing with a reservoir. You water it every day from sprout, and when the taproot hits the res it basically feeds itself, so your daily feedings aren't so much to feed the plant directly as they are to keep the nutes in the res fresh. Like an autopot, more or less, just not...auto.

As far as reusability - that's possible, yeah. My first plant was grown in the "original" Hempy ratio of 3:1 perlite to vermiculite and did really well. I will say that I could tell partway through the grow that reusing that same perlite/vermiculite would be a bitch - it's so fine, and the roots really do a good job of propagating through it - you lose quite a bit to rootbind unless you're willing to really sit there and tease it all out, you know? Also, I find perlite to be too fragile for my liking - every bag I've ever opened has been at least 1/4 full of dust, and it just breaks down from there. Now, there are other ways you can go to fix that - a lot of people really like running their Hempy's with a mix of coco and perlite. It's kind of the "updated" standard for lots of people. Since I don't mess with coco yet, I went with a product called Growstones - specifically their "Mix This!", which is their mid-size option. It's essentially powdered recycled glass that's been cooked into a very porous, very light rock. It's still somewhat fragile and will turn to dust, but it's noticeably more durable than perlite and I'll be reusing most of what I used for my run of Blue Dream that just finished. There are definitely some root fragments left behind in the Growstones but according to their website it should be fine for immediate replanting. I've rinsed mine but you probably don't have to.

So yeah! Hope that answered your questions. Hempy's a really neat and pretty easy way to do hydro, and it can be reusable with a minimum of effort, for sure.

Very nice set up. Have you used the 100% growstones in a hempy before ? There's enough wicking action with those?
I have never used them, but they look like they would be excellent for the roots.

Good luck and may all your Buds be Huge

Peace GG

Hey, thanks for stopping by! I just finished a run of Blue Dream using Growstones, and yeah, there seems to be! I don't know if it's 100% comparable to perlite/vermiculite, but my BD seemed to do pretty well. Never looked under-watered, was eating just fine. And yeah, they're crazy porous and pretty rough, which really gives the roots something to latch onto. This is my second grow with them, so I'm still learning but so far Growstones are at least as good as pure perlite or a perlite/vermiculite mix, and definitely more durable. Definitely not indestructible, but it is holding up better than perlite will, in my experience.

Hope that helps! :smoking:
