If you are not using a recirculating system the roots sit in nutes till a change ( oxypot) or an auto refill (autopot), am i right in thinking that nute uptake is not always equal to water uptake ?

I was thinking that as time goes on the water uptake is greater than nute take up and thus the remaining water gets more and more concentrated till you do a full change.

Does this also not lead to steady build up of salts in the pots so each time they are replenished the medium gets more and more concentrated forcing a full pot clean out every so often

or is the build up negligible

salt build up is definitely an issue w/ chem nutes...its a good thing to flush a plant before feeding. you can do this by giving them a good amount of water just before you feed. if im useing a 3gal sm/pot for instance, i will give her a gal of ph'ed h2o and them feed her...the 1st loosens up and helps to remove any salt build up. by doing this every feeding you will have less build up. occasionally i would water only w/ 2gals just to be sure, as salt build up could cause lock out.

If you are using a DWC system usually I wash out the bucket between res changes, once a week, that prevents the salt build up. I have never used the autopots, so I cna't help you there.

I've used both,as insert said with dwc I wash out once a week when doing a res change but when you get the technique correct your plant should drink water and nutes at the same rate making your ec and ph stable as Seymour Buds calls it "the sweet spot",with my autopot I put a airline in the bottom to maintain the mixture stopping the nutes from staying at the bottom/building up
