I think that is part of the issue with this one, they really should go down about an inch, this is why they sometimes pop out with the shell still attached to the cotys because the plant hasn't established enough of a tap root base and is trying to do two things at once. In theory it should grow a good healthy tap root then start to reach for the light and if the bean is too shallow it can kinda mess with that process
I understand the idea bouncing but right now its already in the plug. I have had issues with the sweet seeds strains it seems. This is only my 4th bucket grow. But In soil I dont seem to have a issue. The first ever devil cream I did sat in the bucket for like 2 weeks and then it started its thing. But everything I read here and elsewhere I should have roots or root dangling within the first week. Maybe the hydrton is making it hard to pass through?
Maybe that was it then and it popped above ground to soon? I will now go and poke my CBD beans a little further down the hole! That could be it right there.
I use hydroton too and haven't had an issue unless your rocks are really small and don't allow enough room between for the root to go..

Yes as it is already in the plug I think that if you put it back in the netpot and leave it be, don't look at the roots for a week and we will all look back and say she was just a slow starter. I bet that will be the case, it is doin its thing. I say put it back maybe thin out the layer of hydroton a little and then lower your light and leave it alone for a few days, just make sure the RR is damp and I promise it will be just fine
How far down are you pushing them now?
I am actually going to split the plug too so the tap has a path to follow to get out the bottm instead of fighting to get through.
about .5 inch then I rip a tiny piece of the plug off and top the hole so it has to push that out like it would in soil and no light gets down into the tap area.

I was told about that connection a couple of years ago and it was totally spot on it made perfect sense too. That is why I let them get a tap first in paper towels, that ensures me to plant them at the proper depth and that they will focus on getting up and out towards the light to shed that shell.
