I seem to have better luck with transplanting than I do with planting direct to final pot. How do you start?

I do the final pot method, after paper towel. I increase the watering diameter as it grows, trying to mimic up potting.

I put my Short Stuff testers right in the final pot and all 4 came up, but that's not usual for me
