Hey everybody:tiphat:I'm giving DWC a whirl and would like some critique/help on my setup. It's my first go at DWC (second grow overall) and it all seems a tad daunting but I'm gonna do my best. Anyway, here's my setup; image.jpgimage.jpg
Feel free to give me some pointers if I need any. I'm running it for a day or two before I germ the seeds so I can monitor temps and stuff, water temp is at 71f, RH is 60% (I expect this to up slightly though), tent temp is 70f (again, expecting this to rise slightly). I'm gonna be using Hesi nutes. Got an E.C meter that should be here tomorrow along with a tube heater and root riot cubes.
Right a few questions I need answering. 1) When doing a res change, do you add any warm water? Or just let it do it's thing and adjust to the ambient temperature?
2) What is the process with germinating the seeds? Before Iv just soaked them in water until they sink, then potted them. Do I do the same but instead of potting them, put them in the root cubes until I see roots then put them in the clay pebbles?
3) Lastly, does the same 'first 2 weeks no nutes' rule still apply with DWC? Iv read conflicting things about what to give autos. I presume some root stimulant is needed but when would I add this? While it's rooting in the cube? Or when I put it in the basket with the clay pebbles?

Oh ye I almost forgot, these are what I'm gonna be dropping in the bucket

Happy days!

Edit* forgot to say that yes, that is an old pc tower that my water pump is sitting on*

Hey Tarzan,

1. Yes I add a little warm water to bring it up to 18 degrees. At this time of year my tap water is about 10 degrees, which will shock the roots.
2. Yes do exactly that.
3. I use Canna and follow their recommendation which is to give very low doses of nutrient for the first two weeks in addition to root stimulant. I would just follow the HESI feeding chart for the first grow and see how that goes.

Good luck man I am also doing AWW in DWC, one month since germination they are looking very good :)

btw very nice job with the setup! Why the filter on the ground though?

The space I'm working with isn't that big and Iv got a GN MS0006 light up top so the space is a bit limited up there, I did have it outside of the tent but it wasn't as effective as inside. I found a major flaw with my setup last night, the noise of my pump is way too loud, it resonates throughout the house and I can't shut it up! Which is a major problem as I need stealth. The pump itself is 40db and the quietest one Iv found on the net is 32db. Can anyone recommend an almost silent pump? If not I'm gonna have to go back to growing in coco. Thanks for the replies!

I have several air pumps from several manufacturers and none of them are very quiet regardless of what is claimed on the box. I imagine it's the vibration of the pump against the PC tower that is making the noise? In that case just muffle the sound with some soft material.

I had the same problem... I wrapped mine in cotton wool :)

Iv tried stacking pillows and putting it on them, in between pillows, towels, in a shoe box wrapped in a towel. I even made a little harness and suspended it from the top of the tent, all to no avail  il try a few more things tonight but failing that or a quieter pump I'm gonna have to revert back to coco

Shame, sorry buddy. I tried suspending the pump in the air also but that didn't improve anything for me either. I researched this a few months ago, Tetra claim their Whisper air pumps are the quietest available but many people have said that after 4-6 weeks they start getting louder. I have no experience with them sorry! None of my pumps are especially quiet but luckily they are mostly drowned out by the drone of all my fans :p
