Hey all,

This is my first grow journal (and first grow!). I'm new to the scene - I only started smoking near the end of last year, just as I was turning the ripe age of 30. It kinda changed my life, for years I've been about 70lbs overweight and now I'm down 50lbs and workout regularly, I also work creatively from home and my general output and concentration has gone through the roof. I've had a pretty debilitating sleeping disorder for most of my life, which is part of the reason I pushed so hard to work from home that has been all but moderated with the godly herb that it is. In short my life and health have improved drastically and that made me spend a lot of time reading ane learning about the plant...which basically led me to the decision that to get the best possible effects for me I needed to hand pick my supply and get my hands dirty.

I'm only looking to cultivate a very personal supply with a mixture of effects. I wanted something upbeat for when I;m out socializing, as well as something that helped me harness my creativity during work hours. I find it's only really indica stuff that's around here (and usually low quality) and it's usually not too beneficial to my work ethic when that's all I can get my hands on. That's not to say I don't want a bit of couch lock, just not all the time!

I settled on auto flowers in the end, after loving the results of some of the Dutch passion grows. I'd like to try normal plants at some point, but for now the scale of my endevour is just to take care of me and I think some of those super autos would do that nicely!

My Setup as it stands looks like this:

Green room tent

The tent is in my bedroom, though that room is becoming the room I'm going to move my home gym into and will be off limits to visitors. I've also taken the extra precaution of framing it up against a wardrobe and using some curtains I have on a cardboard box frame which upon passing glance makes it look like an Ikea fabric wardrobe. I'm going to try to make a refined version at some point, but this was just an initial "get it hidden!" thing.

The tent currently has two passive intakes with some ducting and a few clip on fans for circulation. I've been monitoring environment in the tent for a couple of days and it's sitting right bang in perfect conditions just now with the current weather, but i'll keep an eye on that.

Grow Northern Ms0006 (one at the minute but I'll be adding another in when I get paid again)

Hempy bucket setup with 15l black buckets I bought. In retrospect i should have sourced taller ones but I think (hope?) these will do the job.

Sensi Grow and bloom A and B

Colour Mix 7 from Dutch Passion (Think Different, Starryder and AutoXtreme).

Blue Labs PH meter (I meant to order the dual one but somehow bought the wrong one, so I need to get an EC en next pay as well, so any extra info on nutrient mixing for these plants would be hugely helpful (I've been trying to read about myself but doesn't hurt to ask?)

I haven't bothered with an RO machine yet. I'm only going to be growing 4 plants at a time, ideally harvesting every month, month and a half depending on strain. I'll let two veg up and then start another two halfway through their cycle.

I did some PH testing today and my local tap water is good quality and coming out about 6.9-7.4 depending on which faucet I use. I've got a bunch of PH up and down and need to spend a bit of time figuring out how much to add to my eventual reservoir to maintain the 5.8-6.2 that I understand is ideal for Hempy's?

I'm expecting my medium to get delivered tomorrow (Perlite / Vermiculite) and aim to be germinating early this week. I've done a lot of research and spent a good few hours swatting up but I know it's all going to go out the window the moment I start getting hands on, so I figured it best to get onboard with some of the experts out there!
I have 6 seeds in all, two each of the strains mentioned above. I'd like to grow two plants and then start another two later. I don't want to overwhelm myself and I have a bunch of tight work commitments on the horizon so I think focusing on two plants for the next month or so is best then I'll start my next crop.

I have a few questions regarding germination and initial seedling growth. If I'm aiming for two plants, how many seeds should I start with?

Any tips on the best germination methods for auto flowers ?

And should I have the sprout lings in a small cup to transplant to the larger bucket? I understand that transplanting is generally a bad idea with auto flowers (but I've seen a lot of people doing it), but I'm hoping to get a bit of a definitive answer on what I should do to start.

I think that's all for now! Thanks for looking :D

for your first attempt that is a kick ass setup you have got your hands on  the grow northern leds are spot on and you cant go wrong with dutch passion!! regarding how many seeds you should start with i would only germinate two of them if you only want two, also i would start of in the big buckets i think transplanting is only necessary if you need to get rid of any males, good luck on your grow mate :peace:

Welcome aboard friend :)

Thanks guys! Stopped by to say I got the medium delivered and should be beginning to germinate later this evening (Will take pics!). I played with my water and my PH up and Down's and got the dilution solution down to about 5ml per bucket of water I have bubbling away with an o2 stone and pump. I just need to make the Hempy buckets up now and get my germination on and it's all go :D!

@MeefChief, it's 1.2 x 1.2 x 2.0 The Green Room GR120 :)

welcome my friend look like you have done your home work....nice setup

Germination!

Hello again!

So, I took the plunge and hope I've prepared well enough. I still don't have my EC pen but in theory I should get paid tomorrow and can order it for end of week.

I'm germinating in peat pellets, that came with cheap small propagator box I got at the garden store this morning. I saw a lot of people pop these straight into their hempy with little issue, but if anyone has any extra info on that it would be much appreciated?

The closest to the camera is a Starryder and the one on the back is Think Different.

Here they are set up under the light for heat and my temp is reading back the conditions. All look alright?

I've got some water here in a bucket at PH 6.0, I'll likely have a newer batch for when the plants go into the buckets after roots have begun to appear in the pellets, but I wanted to test my little syringes of diluted up and down to nail the process.

Anyhow, that's about it for today, excited to see how things go and if i'm doing ANYTHING wrong just start shouting at me :)

Thanks for looking!

Is that a phresh filter you using and a rvk 4 inch fan ?

Not sure on filter mate, it was a cheapish package, but it's the RVK - but it's 5" :)

I plan to upgrade on ventilation eventually , go for something a bit more acoustic, but for now and getting started it was an unnecessary expense! When I get the other one I'll punt this one into a cabinet as a curing box for hopefully the regular 1.5 month two plant harvests.

I smoke maybe 10g a week currently and it's about all I can (or want to) pay but and to be honest i'd go more and would love to move off the tobacco (I was never a tobacco smoker) and hit some pure jointsa as I love hitting a trance state and painting or playing guitar, so I'm aiming for a good amount for myself regular like :)

Start of Week 3!

Hey all,

Sorry for the absence. Short version is that I completely messed up my first 3 seeds, just kept them too wet and over loved them so i decided to hold off and wait till I got my truncheon (which I now have) and start again.

This time it went well, did the paper towel method of germination, into peat pellets for a week for roots to form then all into the Hempy bucket.

We're now coming up on 3 weeks 3 days since I germinated and here's how they're looking!

Both are on an EC of 0.4 just now and a PH of 5.8. I'm still watering and feeding daily until I start to see the promised explosive growth then I'll move to every second day.

Think Different:

She's the biggest of the plants so far, though both have similar numbers of leaf growth.
