First timer here. Its under two daytime CFLs puuting out a total of 3200 lumens. My plan is to do this grow simple and add stuff as needed.

These pics are from 1 day and two days after breaking ground. I first germinated in paper towels then transplanted after it sprouted.

Any tips greatly appreciated...what kind of yield should I expect if all goes smoothly?

Thanks!

Hey man welcome to the site :D. Here's a pic of a Cobra I grew out a couple months ago such a frosty bitch :smokebuds:

Welcome to AFN. Moving your thread over to the New Growers forum where we can better help you through your first grow.

Tell us a bit more about your setup. What soil, nutrients, etc. Also, so you have a pH meter? If not, I would strongly suggest getting one. Most issues that new growers run into are pH related. Should you run into anything, the first question we'll ask is where your pH is.

Thanks for the welcome Muddy!

I’m using an organic mix from my local hydro store. I can’t remember the name but its got perlite, bat guano, castings, coco, and a few other things I don’t recall. *
*
I don’t have a PH meter, just a tester.* I haven’t been using any nutrients yet.* I thought that for a seedling I should just leave it alone for a while, and start nutrients in the vegetative stage, or as necessary?* Is this correct?
*
Also, I committed my first serious newb mistake last night…as I was adjusting the light I knocked the cup off the counter onto the floor and about half the soil fell out.* I replaced it, lightly packed down the soil, and watered her. *Today there is a little yellowing on the edge of one of the leaves. *I will test PH later I guess to see if maybe that might be the cause?* Or do you guys think it’s shock from the roots being partially exposed for a few seconds?
*
My local hydro store recommended Superthrive but I’ve been reading mixed reviews of whether it actually does anything or not. *Suggestions?*
*
Thanks in advance!

Greenthumper, after last night’s incident, if I can get half of the results you did, I’ll be happy…actually, if it makes it to maturity, I’ll be happy! Luckily I’ve got a Berry Ryder a couple of days behind this Cobra as well as a mystery seed a few days behind the berry to keep me busy, but I’m really hopefully that my first grow will be a (relative) success!

2-4 days in you've got a delicate sprout water is your best bet for a bit and be very careful not to overwater. Without knowing what type of soil your using it might be too 'hot' for sprouting. If anything add a diluted compost tea or root stimulator.

I agree, that soil mix sounds a bit hot for seedlings with the guano and worm castings. Sometimes hot soils like that can stunt seedlings. Next time opt for something without all the nutrients for starting your seedlings.

The plant that fell should be okay. The bit of yellowing is probably damage from the fall.

Soil testers are okay but not very accurate. You want to maintain a pH between 6.3 - 6.5 and usually with those testers you can only get readings in .5 steps, so not as accurate as needed. Strongly suggest you invest in a good meter, like a Hanna Combo. pH issues can really effect your yields and the meter will pay for itself in now time.

Thanks Torch and Muddy. I'll pick up a meter tomorrow and I won' use the thrive alive.

If the soil is too hot though, the bad news is that all 3 seedlings are in the same mix.:( hopefully the discoloration is from the fall and the same thing doesn't happen to the other two! It seems to be spreading a bit on the cobra leaf. How quickly things can change! The leaves also seem like they may be turning down a bit, so maybe I did overwater. When the soil mix fell out, I put fresh soil mix and read online to water well to make sure to get air pockets from around the roots...so I did.

Post up a picture of the plant that is yellowing and we'll have a look.
