New Grower First Grow Journal- Northern Light Auto

Red you are a very helpful guy!(:

I'll definitely read those links! And I'll check out your grows too!

if my pH is fine, does that mean I do not have nutrient lockout? She seems to be growing still! Especially today I noticed a pretty big difference.

but if it's not pH, what could cause her red stems and pale veins? Genetics maybe?

Based on your pics, GG, it looks like an N deficiency. Iron def would be unlikely at 2 weeks.
I'm seeing light green to yellow leaves, with darker green in the veins.
If that is correct, and your pH is 6.4,and you've let her dry out between waterings, looks like she's getting hungry.
What nutes will you be using?

I was planning on using the Fox Farm trio, is this a good choice? And I was going to begin on day 14. Is. 2 more days okay to wait ?

I haven't used FF nutes, GG, but a lot of folks do.
And yep, if they're looking hungry, give 'em something to eat.
I would start at a 1/4 of the recomended dose and work up from there. :peace:

Thanks for the schedule! A few questions I have about it:
since I haven't used nutes for the first two weeks, should I start at week three on the chart? Or do I start at the beginning?

also for the flushes would I push them back? And can I flush with just pHed water for them?

Day 13 Updates: (very important questions)

- - - Updated - - -

Hey guys, day 13 since planted.

I'm pretty worried, although I'm trying not to be haha.
It seems that the new growth on the plant is growing yellow, and the older growth is becoming a little bit yellow as well (though not nearly as bad). I wouldn't even really call it yellow, but like a light green color. The new growth is literally growing light green, not growing normal and then turning light green.

I've heard so many things, like it could be a magnesium deficiency or nitrogen or sulfur or calcium….I just don't know which it actually is.

Growth is fairly slow, no huge jumps in size.

My question is, should I treat with Epsom Salts? And if I do, how do I do it? I was planning on starting FF nutes tomorrow, but if I have to use epsom salts does that mean I should wait?
For example, if I use Epsom salts would I have to mix them into the water that I water with? And if so, should I wait until next water to start FF nutes? Or should I mix Epsom salts and FF Nutes together in one water, but if I did that, would the nutrients be too strong?

Thanks!

Here's a picture of the light green plant. (not as yellow as the pictures I posted yesterday, but it still doesn't look as green as it should be IMO.

You need to feed that girl, pronto! Here is a great Fox Farms schedule from FullDuplex, one of AFN's founding members. Before I went organic I used this with great results, and it's simple as can be:

"The back of most of the FF bottles say 2 teaspoons for regular feed and 3 for heavy feeding. I never use the 3 teaspoon regimen. 2 tsp is ideal for a 1/4 part break down.

Week

1 - pH water only

1.5 - add in Big Bloom to the mix at 1/2 tsp

2 - 1/2 tsp Grow Big 1/2 tsp Big Bloom

2.5 - 3/4 tsp of Grow Big

3 - 1 tsp Grow Big and 1/2 tsp Tiger Bloom and 1/2 tsp Big Bloom

3.5 - 1/2 tsp Grow Big and 1/2 tsp Tiger Bloom

4 - 1 tsp Tiger Bloom and 1/2 tsp Grow Big

4.5 - Clean pH'ed water to clear out salt build up

5 - 2 tsp Tiger Bloom and 1/2 tsp Grow Big

5.5 - 1 tsp Grow Big

6 - Begin Flush for the final weeks. At this point I can flush for a week before i begin to see yellowing of the fans.

I like to leave enough time to get all the salts out of there before the harvest. This stuff WILL salt up on you and cause build up and lock out.

Hope this helps some of you out there and remember this may vary to your application. This is just MY feed schedule."

This is awesome(: I will definitely feed tomorrow (I live at school 45 minutes from home, but I have someone keeping track of humidity and heat for me and making adjustments while I'm not there).

One big thing, since I'm at week 2 tomorrow , and I didn't give nutes at week 1.5, should I start at week 2: 1/2 tsp grow big and 1/2 tsp big bloom?

also does grow big / big bloom have trace elements in them? Like sulfur or manganese?

What should the pH of the nutrient solution be if my runoff with 6.0-6.4 water has been 6.2-6.5 runoff?

Also so is it only to pre mix nutes in a gallon jug of water and use the same pre mixed nutes for both waters each week? Or should I only use nutes that I mix the day I water?

Grow Big does have all the trace elements you will need. You should probably get some cal/mag or else give them some molasses and epsom salts every couple of weeks. Autos love their cal/mag. I would go right in with the week two schedule and see how things go from there. Looks like you're in the ballpark for soil pH so I'd shoot for 6.3-6.5 in your nute mix. You will likely need some ph UP because the FF nutes tend to lower pH quite a bit. I personally don't like to pre-mix nutes and leave them sitting around. If you have a lot left over in your gallon just, try halving the dose and using a half-gallon milk jug or Gatorade bottle. I sometimes do this when I have a plant that's on a different schedule than the others.
