New Grower First Grow Journal- Northern Light Auto

Hey growgirl. You will need to wait a few days to see pistils(hopefully) throwing up. What day is she at? She looks nice and happy so keep it up! You can also use toilet paper or paper towels for getting RH up(no issues with mold).
I think I forgot something, too stoned. Well anyway, keep it real. Peace

21 Day updates

Hey guys! Some updates for day 21.

I know a lot of people say that they don't start to smell until flower, but she smells. No joke. Not crazy dank, but she smells. The room with the closet she's in smells like weed. Noticeably, but not overwhelmingly.

She's definitely a female! Sexed today (:

I hope she gets taller before she starts to flower, Id like to get a decent yield for my first grow! Hopefully at least 10g.

Her stem is still growing crooked. I don't think it's a terrible thing though, because the leaves are straight. The leaves are pointing directly upwards, but the stem is curved. Strange.

Yesterday I watered. It took a LOT of water until it started draining out the bottom. (Almost 3/4 of a gallon). But when it did start draining, a lot came out. Could this mean that my soil is really compact down from watering? I hope not because wouldn't that keep the dolomite lime from spreading? It's little pellets of dolomite lime. Smaller than the size of a bb pellet. About the size of a lentil. Some smaller.

also, some of the leaves seem to be growing backwards or something. Is this normal? The newer leaves growing at the bottom are growing upside down almost. There's a picture of it below.

heres some pictures:

Wow nice plant you have there! You should totally do some LST, they respond really good too. Dont worry she will take off and you can already see the branching. Its probably gonna be a good yield(hope so).Im sure you're gonna get more then 10g, i bet shes gona atleast double or triple that :) Peace

23 days from sprout

Thanks shax!(: I was thinking about doing some LST, but decided I'll probably wait until my next grow, (which will be NL again because I have 2 more seeds from royal queens) that way I can kind of get a feel for how NL works before I mess with them (; do you think LST is the best thing to do? Or would FIM be better?

Today is 23 days from seed, she seems to be getting a little taller every day! No discoloration of leaves, and looks pretty healthy over all!

Theres only one problem I'm having and it actually just popped up last night and this morning. The upper fan leaves are canoeing pretty badly. The heat is at around 73 and the high was 79 and low was 70. 80% of the day it's between 73-75 occasionally goes up to 79 but drops back down. Sometimes when it gets colder at night it goes down to 70. So it's not due to temperature.

humidity has been around 37-39% which is better than it was when the leaves weren't canoeing, so I don't think it's humidity?

The fan in there is somewhat blowing on the plant, but only the upper leaves are being affected. When I put my hand above the plant (under the CFLs) it doesn't even feel very warm because the fan hits the lights too and seems to cool them off.

Last, my last water was Thursday (3 days ago) and she's just displaying these signs now (on the third day) so I don't think it's over watering. I've been rotating feeding a with nutes and just pHed water, she's due for a water with just pHed water today. But I'd like to figure out what it is before hand... Thanks!

these pictures show the upper fan leaves canoeing while the rest of the plant looks healthy:

Growgirl, your lights are a little bit too close to the tops, I think. That is why top leaves are canoeing (canoeing is really good word for this type of behaviour.)

This way leaves try to reduce their surface turned to light, which is too strong.

If you decide to go up, then do it really carefully. 10% more upwards means maybe 20% less light and not only 10%.

I had grown NL from RQS and it was a disaster, this strain really does not stand much malpractice, so carefully and good luck!

I concur. Canoeing is a good word for this. 5 points for growgirl! :slap:

From one new grower to another -
I wouldnt worry too much about her size..I too was worried about the size my AutoMaria2 (from paradise). Paradise's advertised height indoors is 70-90cm so needless to say when she started to flower and was under a foot, I started having a mild stoke lol and then I started to realize that just about everything advertised is lies/and or/ expectations for master growers lol so as promised - from one new grower to another - realistic expectations for an uber newb lol

Then with very little prior knowledge, I decided to attempt LST to try and improve upon what I was sure was going to be a minimal harvest so I pulled over her main cola and tied her up. Then I stopped and just a few days ago tied her sides out and this is what we got

20140318_112407.jpg3/18 after i first tied her down20140323_205323.jpg3/2320140329_121730.jpgyesterday

so as you can see, stressing the size so early is silly. She may not be huge and may not pull a monster yield, but shes going to do better than if she were still 9" ;) I think pulling her main cola out of the way so the lowers got more light was grossly beneficial for final yield. there are a loooot of fan leaves still tucked, so I cant imagine how shaded her bottom portion would be if I'd just left her alone.

Thanks for your quick replies guys! Gonzo, I took your advice and moved the nights up. Hopefully that helps, check out these pictures and let me know what you think.

Wheredaweedat that's some nice progress! From seeing that I think I might LST later today. I'm just scared of screwing it up since this is my first grow and I've been working really hard on it (probably harder than I should lol).
Any tips for LST?

Looks very nice. I have seen your video and plant looks great.

Have never used CFLs but I know they should be on short distances, so do not go too far.

So far you have done it right, plant has very healthy structure.

Good Luck!:Sharing One:

Hey ya growgirl, lost ya for a bit there.LOL!hows things?good?!i hope so!!..

From the one pic I was able to open you can move your CFL's down about an inch near the sides and about a 1/2 inch to a full inch near the tops.Just watch for heatstress and light browing on the tips.Make sure ya got good airflow bettween the lights and your top.Just enough to regulate the ttemps from the bulb but watch for wind burn.just a smooth delicate dance between the two.just keep an eye on em n slowly adjust as i grows.Add some side lighting if you can to get the sides when spreads open a lil more.Watch for heat an air flow.

And I personally wouldnt LST for your first grow.I kinda freaked out my first grow,LST,Nutes numbers ahhhhhh, stress strings AHHHH..LMAO!Just sit back enjoy the delicate dance, watch em grow, know the strain and try some leaf tucking.Thats a very valuable skill to aquire,as well as LST down the road if you like lst.I personally am not a huge fan.but looks like ya'll got it.nice color.I bet she does smell nice.rub the center stems really lightly n smell yer finger.I know ya did that right?!!LOL!smell them oils n terps building.mmmm, mmmm gooood stuff.well, take it easy growgirl.it'll try to remember to stop back by again.I forgett a lot.really I do.:Sharing One::niceshot:"AFN smoke out"
