I'll give them another day or two I guess before I start to germ my spares. I did just look at one of the discarded seed hulls and it looks like it has something resembling a seed leaf stuck to the inside
The one looks like it just needs more time, but the other one I'm suspecting it somehow lost both first leaves. Best way I can describe it is a bare white matchhead poking up. I can grab a picture tomorrow.
Sometimes the seed leaves stick together at the ends and the first set of true leaves can't get out. A gentle squeeze will sometimes break that connection and let the seed leaves open. Keeping them moist by misting them also helps. If the seeds are still attached you can usually remove them with a pair of tweezers. Again, be gently and try not to harm the leaves. I used to have that happen frequently till I started planting them a bit deeper at 1/2". Gives them a little more time in the moist soil for the pods and seed leaves to open completely.
Muddy was pretty much spot on, the 'white matchead' I had pretty much written off had popped open by the time I looked today. I helped the other along in opening up, the seed casing/hull was stuck pretty firmly on it. Got it opened up, the one seed leave has a little purpling on it but I'm going to give it a day before I start worrying about it again
Also I switched over to 2 23w CFL for the next couple days. The 240w Blackstar is incredibly bright, and I can't help but feel even 2 feet away it might be a little too much for them at this stage.
Good idea on switching to cfl for right now IMO. Get them going before you blast em with the Blackstar. Those things are intense. Glad you got it all worked out and that they popped open for you.
There are differing opinions on this. Some wait until they sex around week 2-3 and say that's fine. Some say do it before then as soon as the tap roots show in the bottom of the cup. You can slowly lift them out of the bottom cup and check. I bet your might be, but I have seen much larger plants in 18oz cups like those seem to be, and then they transplant. SO just wait for more suggestions and decide what you think is best. Good luck.
with regular seeds I like to wait until they show sex just to save space, soil, and time but with feminized seeds you should be okay to do it anytime. I like to plant fem seeds into their final pot but since you have them in the 16 0z party cups I would wait until they get a little root system developed and then they should transplant nicely. It looks like your doing the tier method so really anytime will work. I would say give them 2 weeks and then do it
