New Grower First grow starting this week - 1xNirvana Blue Mystic 1xNirvana Short Rider

hello buddy

just popped in to see your grow and how thins are kicking off looks like your off to a good start :dance2: im just off to check mine see if anythings happened since !!! from newbie to newbie as for your humidity percentage this is what i do and it wont cost you the earth i mist a couple of times a day i was around 58 percent now im at a comfortable 66-69 percent obviously it depends on many things but works for me, a nice cheap and easy way to gain a few percent and lets face it im sure everyone looks at their plants at least twice a day  good luck buddy and happy growing :peace:

Congratulations Spiker ... :dance2:

Blue Mystic number 2 has popped up! I completely missed it. Checked last night - nothing. This afternoon It is about an inch high with leaves! The short rider hasn't arrived yet, but hopefully she will surprise me like blue #2.

Well my short rider seed didn't make it. I moved the dirt around a bit and found it cracked an black on the inside. No growth, nothing. So I am going to germinate another. My 2 blue mystics are looking awesome, 4 leaves each, happy campers so far. Ordered some neem oil as I saw a couple of gnats in the area today. Will that affect my organic balance at all?

Question re. watering, I have read that you let the top inch or so dry out....is that the case with seedlings? What should my watering regimen be. I soaked it good last Saturday before planting the seeds, then watered about a half a cup each 3 days ago. My pots are 1 gallon pots.

Temp with 2 x 125W 6400K grow lights is 81, humidity today is 38%. I have ordered another fan to get more circulation in there maybe cool things down a bit. Might also cut a few 2 inch diameter holes around the cabinet to aid with cooling and since I plan to only grow autoflowers, not really concerned with light getting in. I have 4 more 23W bulbs to add tomorrow, 2 6400k, 2 2700K, so temps are going to get hotter. The room the cabinet is in is about 74 degrees, so the heat is all from those huge lights.

This is the first time I've turned the lights off in a week, I am going to redo some things on the cabinet tonight...ordered some real mylar, so will be putting that in. I had tried using those reflective blankets that you get for emergencies, but it was not usable...too flimsy to work with and see through as well.

So this is start of week 2 for the blue mystics and the new short rider is in water, so it is week one for shorty. Thanks for any advice you may have for me!

Cheers

At the point your Blue Mystics are at I would generally water them w/ 1/2 cup to a full cup of water being careful to lead the roots towards the outside of the pot and down w/o saturating the soil ... pour the water on slowly in a circle about 1/2 the distance from the stem to the pot ... at this point there is more to be feared from overwatering but you don't want them to dry out completely either ... Mylar makes a difference w/ autos ... it will help them become bushier ...

One of the things that I do when preparing a pot w/ soil is I try to get the soil in the bottom of the pot damp as I'm filling the pot ... this way the soil in the bottom of the pot has some moisture (not bone dry like in the bag) for the roots to be attracted to when they first start out and I don't have to drown a seedling trying to get enough water in the pot after it first comes up ... if a seed is planted the same day the pot is prepared and germinates in about 3 days the tap root can be at the bottom seeking water inside of a week which should be before the moist soil in the bottom has a chance to dry out ... more roots = more foliage ... soaking the pots like you did prior to planting should have taken care of their water needs for a while ...

Good Luck w/ your grow ... :tiphat:

Thanks Chester. I think I may have over watered already!...I broke down and saturated last night. I kept reading I needed 20 percent runoff once a week...argh. hope I don't kill em...but if I do I won't next time. So much to learn. I will never call it weed again ! This is not easy.

You should be OK ... it takes a lot to drown them ... overwatering early will slow their growth but Roots Organic soil should be pretty light ...

Some cabinet upgrades

Last night i made a reflector hood from mylar and cardboard...works great. So i took some pics of my cabinet in its current state. Also to up the humidity i'm setting a few bowls of water in the cabinet.

There is a picture of the cabinet a few weeks ago, and now you can see the mylar I lined the cab with. It was SO hard to work with. I used a spray adhesive and it was sticking everywhere, hence you see it more in strips then fully lined. Next is my home made reflector for the 2 vertical 125 W cfl's. I fit cardboard to slide onto the vertical wires, wrapped with mylar, it's an easy on easy off reflector. I'm not really using it yet for the seedlings. I also have some additional side lights(23w cfl) to mix 2700k and 6400k throughout t the grow. I have 2 each of the 125W 2700k and 6400K. Right now running the 2 125W 6400K only.
