Hey folks,

So I thought'd I'd start a thread to document my first indoor grow. I've grown twice before, both outside, and thoroughly enjoyed the entire growing process (apart from the waiting!). My setup has been purchased on eBay and is arriving in the next day or two. As it stands it's looking like:
  1. Secret Jardin DR90 (90x90x180cm)
  2. Powerplant Coolwing Air-Cooled Reflector
  3. Powerplant Daylite Magnetic Ballast (600W)
  4. 1 x 600W Dual Spectrum HPS
  5. RAM 5'' Fan (350cfm) + PHAT 5'' Carbon Filter combo
  6. 3 x 10 Litre Superroots Airpots

In my previous (outdoor) auto grow I used BioBizz Light Mix and I'm happy to use it again. From what I've read autos love lighter, airier soil and I was pleased with the results I got from it last time (Sweet Seeds "+ Speed").

I'll be using Biobizz's Grow, Bloom and Topmax range of nutrients throughout the grow. They came free when I purchased the DR90 so might aswell. :D:

The Think Different seeds will be germinated directly in their final containers (10L Airpots).

I hope to share my first forray into indoor growing with you all, feel free to chime in any time during the grow journal with advice/opinions - I'm still very green (pun intended) and ready to learn!

Unboxing/Setup pics to come!

Cheers,

Nubbz :peace:

I've found a lot of conflicting advice regarding how to run the hood and extraction/filter setup. As I've only got one fan I'm going to be using passive intake, but that's about as far as I'm getting!

I'm under the impression it'll be more effective to have the fan push air into the hood as opposed to pull from it. Another tip was to put the filter earlier in the chain so the hood doesn't get any dust/crap in it.

This is what I've come up with for extraction: Carbon filter -> Fan -> Ducting -> Air Cooled Hood -> Ducting -> Tent Port (Exhaust)

Does anyone see a problem with this setup? Is there a more efficient way considering I only have 1 fan?

I've also read that slack and/or excessive ducting decreases the efficiency of the fan but wont I necessarily have to leave slack in the ducting either side of the hood so I can raise/lower it?

As always, any advice/criticism is gratefully appreciated. :peace:

There are many ways you can set it up. The best way to run a carbon filer (in my opinion) is to suck the air through the filter. You can mount the filter in the tent and mount the fan outside the tent and have it suck the air out through the filter (if you are short on space). But, if you have room in your tent, you can mount the filter directly onto the fan. I suck the air through my filter, then blow that air through my cool tube and out the side of my grow box. I run it this way because any leaks allowing air to escape would just let filtered air out through leaks. Hope that helps.

get a small fan say 4 inch fan to pump fresh air in to the tent worth getting a speed controller a cheap one will do then you do not to run the fan on full speed :karma Cloud:

Beans went into soil about 24 hours ago. They're in their final (6L airpot, not 10 as the original post says) container. I've placed the Coolwing about 1.5 feet above the surface. My probe, which is in the top of the soil, is reading 30C/86F. It seems a touch high, but is it too high?

Yeahhhhh! All three germed successfully and are above soil! One had it's cotyledons trapped in the inner husk of the seed casing. Using a scalpel I very carefully slid the blade between the two leaves and cut the casing away. The lamp is about 1.5 feet away at this point. Feeding them with a large turkey baster filled with bottled mineral water at the moment. I tried taking pictures but my phone is playing up and wont allow me to upload them! :face:

What's the max height I can expect from 6L airpots? I chose them hoping to limit vertical growth in my relatively confined space.
