First organic grow - blue automazar // afghan kush ryder

The smell of an AKR is incredible and even after its cured and in a baggie its easily detectible. Its one of my favorites:peace:
recently I grew 2 of these started at different times. I harvested the first one at 75 days and the second one at 60 days. The 60 day one looked good but the buds ended up being a little bit on the airy side and the yield did suffer a little bit. If I could do it over again I would let it go 75 days. Both were very frosty and really sticky when cleaning. Good luck:peace:

Over the weekend I finally picked up some mulch for my pots. I went with cypress because apparently that is the only untreated(read:dyed) mulch I was able to find that was ok to use. So at any rate I took a pic last night to update my journal with them in mulch before I forget. Picture is at day 49 and 14 respectively.

I've been trying to find mulch as well. All I can get over here is 'decorative' which basically means it's been dyed, treated, sanitised etc. But, just up the road they've been chopping trees down and chipping the small branches. Will have to fill a couple of bags up soon :)

The girls are coming on great Medi :)

Thanks guys, even though it's only been a few days they seem to be responding very positively to the mulch.

Thanks Gman, a lot of people use straw fairly effectively if that might be easier to find.

if you are using it as a basic covering mulch you can try cypress mulch.it has natural insect repellent properties.move it to water ,but works good if you have light pests.lol.

I'm using it for water retention more than anything. I only since found out that it's kind of a ecological nightmare since the demand went up they're chipping entire trees rather than using just biproduct. I'll either use straw or maybe pine needles or something once I've made it through this bag. I also read somewhere that cypress can leach N from the top inch or so of the soil so I guess I'll have to keep an eye on that as well. Is there any other reason to use an alternative? Do you mulch? It's incredibly dry in my grow space which means daily watering to keep the micro life alive, so I thought this would be a good way to keep it right and The Rev suggests it anyway.

Well generally in organics you'll have a little faster root growth, imo, and will root out quite early.especially if its a slightly larger plant(pot size depending too) and is often dry.I like soaking and using surfactant as well along with a mellow freshly brewed something depending, and then mulch it with small bark then some Hay n a few large pieces of bark n watch for any damp off issues ofcourse but.lol. I dont mulch as a rule.I have but its too much work.lol.once they get soo far,I just soak each pot in a solution completely for maximum wetage man LOL! then you could use anything ya wanted really for mulching.shredded something, damp is your best bet avoiding the stalk imo.

ya man,i too hate they are never ecologically sound in their practices,as most really arent.even the ones on the surface n on paper.they are all jacked lmao!! id avoid pine needles unless you change them out.if they break donw you'll get your trace C vitamin n acids which is ok with some and a good buffered soil id suspect you'll have little if any issues with that.pests beware n all lol. hell make a fashioned template woven that you could lay in two parts just above the soil LOL!

Once again coming through with great information man, much appreciated as always. I'm thinking that I may be able to re-use the mulch I have for quite a long time to at least lessen the impact of this tree being taken just for shredded mulch. I'll try to keep an eye on any negative impact it may have and then when the time comes to replace it maybe I'll have something better. Supposedly it does make an impact on early plant growth though, and that seems to be where I have the most trouble getting them to grow. Thanks again for the advice and information!!

BAM//AKR Day 53

The AKR calyxes hit that swollen state this week but has otherwise not changed a whole lot in about a week. The very top started going cloudy at the beginning of the week and by now has gone well over 75% cloudy. I don't know how much longer I'm going to let it go before I apply the law of diminishing returns and replace it with a Stone Dragon. The AKR has largely been a disappointment between the dwarfing in stature and the fact that it really isn't fattening up. That said the frosting over has been incredible, and the leaf to calyx ratio is off the charts good. I definitely plan to not only come back to this strain some day, but probably also try a few other WoS grows as I consider this bean to be a one off with all the very successful AKR grows I've seen around. I'm going to throw up a couple pics of the AKR before moving on to the BAM.

The BAM by comparison is coming along nicely, and putting on a little weight. The trichome development hasn't been the explosion I've seen in the AKR but it's coming along nicely all the same. It seems to have grown two distinct tops along with the smaller side branches. I did some very light bending each day for a couple weeks so I'm guessing it at least partially paid off. My future grows I'm going to train with these rods I picked up at the garden store with some training wire to hold them in place. I'm probably going to avoid SCROG nets as I intend to keep a rotation of plants in and out of the tent and when I had the net moving things around become a chore. At any rate I'll throw up some photos of the BAM I took this morning and move on to some quick shots of the Think Different twins.

Think Different Day 18

The twins have really taken off and are incredibly healthy. The color looks good and the leaves are actually bigger than either of the older neighbors in the tent so I've got a feeling this could be a wild ride ahead. The main differences are that they're in 3 gallon nursery pots rather than 5 gallon cloth pots, they have blood and bone meal in the soil whereas the last batch I made did not, and finally I added some Jobes Organic spikes(the kind meant for containers) to the containers toward the edge. Transition into veg has been great and I'm excited to see what they do when they transition into flower because they can't seem to stop growing and flourishing. I'll throw up a photo of each and call this an update. Hope you all have a good weekend!!

The AKR while being an underperformer for you still looks lovely Medi, some beautiful frost on her :)
The TDs look great. Is the mulch working as you'd like?
Personally rather than using stakes I'd love to see you have a go with some lst man :)
