Extraction first time making cannabutter

Not sure if im doing it right but we will see. Im using fresh trim and popcorn buds, i trimmed off fan leaves and green matter, then trimmed a 2nd time and ended up with what im using which seems like a fair amount, id say easily 14g dry? After trimming my plant they went into the freezer for a couple hrs because i had to run errands. I decarb'd it in the oven on 310 for 6 min then added it to 2 sticks salted butter and 12oz water in a 2qt slow cooker on low. After i plan on pouring in a tinfoil pan and poking a hole to drain water after it cools.

How long should i let it stew? I can do about 10 hrs if i shut it down tonight or 18 hrs if i wait till the am. Any other tips? I plan on running to the grocery store in a bit. Also for straining i have a large and a fine strainer, and coffee filters, what should i use? Will butter go through a coffee filter or no? Thanks in advance!
 
Hi BRICH :) 10 hours will be plenty for cannabutter. I use a 50 micron screen, but before getting that, I'd line a steel kitchen strainer with cheesecloth- you can usually find it in a grocery store where they sell pots/pans/pyrex stuff. I used 3 layers of the cheesecloth, and after it filtered to no dripping, you can take out the cheesecloth with the canna-material in it, and squeeze out the remaining butter, being careful not to spill the greens from it lolol

Awesome, im going to look for cheesecloth again. I kinda checked for it at walmart but had no idea where it would be. Maybe some cannapancakes for breakfast! Glad i have tomorrow off to test my first butter run. I have no idea what to expect, just hope to learn and get toasted along the way

Enjoy! My first butter run... I used over an ounce of shake, and it was a mix of 6-7 strains..I used a crock just like you, for 6 hours, if memory serves. The next morning, a Saturday :), I painted that cannabutter on an English muffin, and...... don't remember a THING for hours! lololol It was SOOOOOOO potent! I had to cut it down with another 2 sticks, just to be able to use it :) Good times....
 
To be completely honest i have no clue how much i used. If it were a typical cookie pan, it would have covered it. Im actually thinking of shutting it down soon, maybe around the 6 hr mark. Couldnt find cheese cloth so should i use the 2 strainers or try a coffee filter for a final filtering? Im afraid the butter might start to cool if it drips through too slowly

If you put a couple coffee filters between the 2 strainers, you can poke some holes through the filters with a pin-keeps the butter flowing, but strains pretty well. Safety note---I always wear mitts when doing this stuff.... I have the singe scars to prove why... lolol

Ok in the last 15 min i decided i was anxious to try my new plant. Strained the butter and put it in tinfoil pans where its cooling. Probably(definitely) making a batch of cookies tonight and eating one cuz, well, i think i earned it hahahaha

Time for round 2: the better butter run. So im using a ton of sweet leaf trim and popcorn buds and some good bud, basically all but the best buds from a plant and a half. Added 2 cups of water, hoping more water will absorb the excess plant material and 2 sticks of salted butter. Ill keep the slow cooker on either low or warm switching every now and then because i dont like how much it boils on low.

First batch certainly worked, im hoping for incapacitated high with this batch. Also was kinda impressed with how good the butter tasted in my first run, i hope this one doesnt taste bad from too much bud
