Indoor Fishmans super LST auto grow

Update

Here's a long overdue update guys. So since the original posting I have received all of my gear and seeds except the tent, which will be here tomorrow. It's been a very busy past couple days with a lot of work done. The spare bedroom that had been built by previous tenants (shoddy job with footers not even nailed in place, drywall and 2x4 false wall pretty much) was found to have black mold in the wall panels and 2x4's. Me and a couple buddies tore down all that crap and will be reframing on Monday evening and sheet rocking on Tuesday evening. We had to rip out the carpets in there and the original linoleum was covered with a lot of paint so I have acetone removal to do, then after the new drywall is up have to repaint the room so it probably won't be done and dry until wed morning realistically.

In the process of ripping apart the walls we discovered several patched 12" exhaust holes and electrical holes, we didn't tear up the entire ceiling but the part we did we found another 12" hole (possibly going to the chimney). I had suspicions about this house and garage being used as a grow before due to other evidence found but this confirmed it. Pretty shitty- the guys did terrible construction work and then left it, don't know the extent of the damage caused without ripping apart the ceiling and walls in other rooms. I suspect the mold was caused by a hydro system flooding. I wouldn't care as much but this property has been in my girlfriends family for decades, her father lives overseas and was renting it out, I don't know if it was the last tenants or the ones before but PLEASE people if you are running an op in a place you don't live, don't be an asshole and fuck it up for the next guy, have some respect in your work.

I may bring out an electrician while the walls are apart to make sure everything is kosher and possibly add another outlet. The bathroom next to this room is also all fucked up now and will need redoing but that is another rant.

The GOOD news: I did set up 9 airpots and mixed 50% fox farms OF with about 30-35% peat moss and the rest vermiculite (everyone was out of perilite and I'll be using that for the additional pots). I planted the seeds (3X blackberry kush, 3x afgan kush ryder, SODK, Tyrone Special, Tooth Decay) directly WITHOUT germination 1/2" deep on Thursday night (April 2) around midnight under two of the mars 1200's with a fan running. I woke up 10 hours later and found the room at almost 100 degrees! Realized my ventilation was shit, added a second fan and removed one of the LED panels. I quickly managed to stabilize the temps around 70-82, with an average of around 78-80 during lights on and as low as 65 lights off. Got my humidity stable around 50-60%, up from 22% that first 100 degree morning.

I was getting impatient and was concerned about planting a little too deep so last night I went digging for seeds. I was able to locate 8 of them, all of which had tap roots (most 1/4 inch but some 1/2 inch). Half of them were facing up so I placed the taproots down. I found the elusive 9th seed this morning and it has also popped a tap root. Expecting my first signs of life above the surface in the next 12 hours.

Once I get the room finished the tent will go up quick and I will plant the rest of the ladies (Red Posions, White Widows, Cheese Candy, White Cheese). I have decided NOT to SCROG and instead it will be a SOG grow with some light LST training. Alaska just OFFICALLY confirmed a house limit of 24 plants so I am going to do 18-20.

CHEERS!
Pics to come as soon as I have signs of life above the surface.

Sounds like you are getting your room squared away and off to a good start! Sorry about the previous tennants. Last people i rented to ended up getting the boot not for growing, but for damages related to growing so i 2nd the take care of the place you are growing idea. All fun and games till someone gets hurt, but im not letting my property get ruined because someone cant figure out their own bootleg plumbing and obviously didnt call servpro when it caused a foot of water in the basement. Rant over. GL bro wish you smooth sailing and an awesome harvest in the near future!

Up and GROWING ;)

Hi guys,

Well here it is- the first major update. Got the tent set up in a spare area while the bedroom gets finished properly (probably another week still including sheetrock, mudding, drying time, painting etc. Initially did a test with three of the mars 1200's running with 1 box fan, 2 oscillating fans, and the 420 CFM Fan running full blast. Temps got hot real quick up into the low 90's. Added a passive cold air intake from the window and two small clip on fans and got it more like 85-86. I now only have two lights on and am stable between 78-82.

Does anyone have any recommendations for commercial quality fans that take up less space and/or suggestions for better temp management? I'm throwing the kitchen sink at it and still running hotter than I would like to. Humidity is also an issue and I think I need to add a large or second humidifier. With the limited output (1 gallon about every 18-24 hours) and the rapid sucking out of the humid air with the outtake fan I've gone from a solid 60% humidity in the open closet to only 25-28% in the tent.

I also added a large bag of C02 releasing material, I need to get a meter but expect this size bag will get me around 700-1000 PPM.

The plants are very notably taking off after being put in the tent, even with the temps in the upper range I'd like them to be. All of them had opened up by midafternoon today with the previous closet setup but are now a lush green and growing tall fast. I will note the mephisto SODK has outpaced every other plant by atleast 24-36 hours in sprouting and growth.

I think they look very healthy and didn't have any real concerns but a buddy mentioned something I thought I'd ask about- He said the Cotyledon's might be droopy due to overwatering (I have been keeping them moist as much as I can with a spray mister) or excess nitrogen (which FFOF is notorious for running hot). Does anyone see a problem with their condition?

Thanks and enjoy!

taking photos usually works best for me under 6500K cfl's the light of LED screws with your camera making it blurry.

I'm checked in on this one WOW haha :')

Ohh and you could buy a bunch of clip-on fans + I don't think you should worry about the cotyledons. They seem normal but, I might be wrong.

Update 4/8- 5.5 days since non germ seeds planted and 2nd full day since above ground (except for the SOKD which has been out 3 days).

I spent about 7-8 hours today working on the tent and things to due with the ladies/errand running for parts. I mixed up another batch of soil and gave it a good soaking (a little under a gallon a pot) of RO water that tests out lower than expected (AWESOME) at 6.5 PH. Made peat pockets at the top and planted the seeds that have germinated in paper towels over the past few days- all the red posions, all the white widows, 1 of the white cheese, and the cheese candy.

Big news today- I finally got my room under control! TAKE THAT HEAT!!! After tinkering with the exhaust, adding another passive intake, raising the fans, and adding a 4" stealth inline fan for intake pulling from the cold window air the temps have stabilized at 77-80 and are holding at 78 right now with 40% humidity. The ladies above ground got a good watering of RO water today, about a liter each. They had not had their soil presoaked and needed it.

Very happy with the progress today and I think the effort and financial investment will start paying off in results of happy big plants soon. I think I will begin feeding veg nutes in another week on the first of the sprouts.

The first photo is a what comes out of the tent onto my linoleum floor- it is amazing to see in person the photos don't capture it well but the spectrum of the lights projected on the floor is immense and gorgeous.

To recap for those joining us on this adventure I am now running 3 Mars 1200 lights in a 4x8 tent with a 6" outtake, 4" intake, multiple passive exhausts, 2 oscilating fans, 2 clip on fans, one box fan, and a household humidifier. I now have 9 strains planted and under the lights (White Widow, White cheese, cheese candy, afgan kush ryder, blackberry kush, red poison, tyrone special, toof decay, Sour orange diesel kush). This is my first grow, well second if you count my experiment at 16/17 years old.

Could we get a pic. of this in natural lighting? Looks great!!!

Hey everyone- I'll try to mount a few cfl's today to get some quality non marslike photos this afternoon. I made a few additional changes last night- removed the box fan, an oscilating fan, and one clip on fan- replaced them with a powerful small vortex type fan. Temps ran stable all night with a max of 78. Humidity is on the low side, goes from 30-40. To combat that I'll be picking up a nice humidifier with more output and hopefully one that I can set to a certain humidity.

Ladies looked very happy this morning. I started a growth log last night aswell and will measure growth every 24 hours by millimeters.

Hi guys,

Here is an update for day 11 of the bigger plants, the smaller ones are 5-6 days old I believe. It has been a bit of a rollercoaster week. I got the tent into its final location and had all four lights running for about 8 hours. Came downstairs and smelled electric burning and killed the breakers- found an outlet on the other side of the room on the same circuit that had fused the positive/negative wires from heat and the breaker never tripped. Scary stuff! I thought I had more amperage available than I really did to the room. Word of advice to all other beginning growers- make sure your electric is in order!!!!!

I had an electrician come out, awesome dude, and we will be installing the solution, a titan helios 7 with 8 plug ins, a timer, and capable of 8000 watts directly off of a 50 amp connection to the electric panel. A bit overkill but makes me feel much safer and it is a quality product that won't "go bad."

Due to the electric issues the ladies went without light for around 15-18 hours, but they seemed to handle it just fine. To be safe I now only have two lights running until the titan helios is installed in the next couple of days.

My plants growth is mainly wide- they are stacking up the leaves but not growing in height much. Here are my measurements from today (4.17.15) at 2 PM.

Here is the data on the sizes for a handful of plants.

Toof decay- 12 CM wide, 5.5 CM tall
Afgan Kush- 12 CM wide, 5.5 CM tall
BB Kush- 11 CM wide, 5.5 CM tall
SODK- 10 CM wide, 4.5 CM tall
Seedlings- Range from 4.5-5.5 CM in width.

Most of my plants look extremely healthy but the tyrone special has some very weird leaf growth and bends to the leaves. This is also evident, less so, on one of the afgan kush plants. I suspect this is due to nitrogen toxicity? The plants have been getting fed plain RO water except for one feeding of sensi grow a/b and a small dose of calmag a few days ago. The big plants are due for a watering tomorrow and the seedlings got their first full watering today.

I am concerned over the lack of vertical growth but today the plants are really showing signs they are about to take off- and the stems are getting THICK. I think such short plants is probably actually a good thing- meaning they have enough light. I would appreciate input on this and the odd leaf devolpment/bending.

CHEERS!

P.S- some of the plants are already starting to smell a very nice sweet smell.
