New Grower Fox farm Happy Frog contaminated with aphids!

Nuclear strike completed. Coco has been mixed and more seeds are germing! Thank goodness I took the time to make seeds this summer or I would be one hot potato right about now. :toke:

Same problem here! Something needs to be done! Digging out an old bag of miracle grow to start my stuff along with rockwool cubes so they have time to grow before getting nuked with mg crap...

Edit: I am not having a problem with amphids, just some sort of gnat larvae. But FFHF is the only reason they would be in my grow room...

I've had bug issues with Happy Frog before myself...not talking shit but I don't use any of their product line anymore, personally.

Never had a problem with Roots stuff FWIW...

Coco's a cool medium...be wary of N and Mg issues first go-round...

Yet another reason I'm happy that I:

A. Don't buy Fox Farms

and

B. Stick to hydro.

Question...are you sure they were aphids and not dirt "flies". I don't believe aphids can live in (on) soil compounds. They need actual live green vegetation to survive. I have never opened a bag of commercially available growing / potting compound (FF, Black Gold, Miracle-Grow, etc.) and not had some type of winged insect flutter around for a few days. This stuff all sits outside in barely sealed, full of rips and holes bags in all kinds of weather and it's gonna happen. Any bags of soil we get are opened and dumped into a large tub (Rubbermaid, etc) and amended and dried and turned and ph'd for months before it goes into a planting bucket. Good luck with the problem whatever they turn out to be and keep us posted. Puff, puff, pass

IIRC aphids lay eggs in the fall, die off, and then in the spring the eggs hatch to start the mayhem anew.

So even though we usually see them rapidly reproducing and going through generation cycle after generation cycle in warm conditions, I'm pretty sure the eggs can last a long time in colder conditions.

Ticking time bombs just waiting for you to open the sack.
