Hello all,

I just bought a big bag of Fox Farm Ocean Forest, but I am currently in the process of building my grow kit.
My question is, how can I store my soil? I have searched around and it says not to store in hot temperatures, but how about for cold(er) temperatures? Will that kill the living organisms currently living in the soil?

Colder temps won't hurt the mix but try and keep it off the ground so rodents don't get in it.

Yeah, those microbes just go dormant until the conditions become optimal. Not a problem in really cold weather, but beware of storing it openly where gnats, flies, and other bugs can lay eggs in the soil. I keep mine in a bucket with a lid on it and give it a stir with a shovel every now and then.

Ah, thank you guys for the information. The soil bag is currently in the trunk of my car. I had no idea where and how to store it, so I just left it in the trunk. lol.

For storing in a bucket, is it safe to store it inside a 5 gallon and just put a cap on it?

That's what I did back when I used FF soils & had no issues with it. Prior to that I had just left the unused portion in the bag and rolled the top closed. After a nasty case of fungus gnats, I started sealing it up. Since there are living organisms in the soil, I always left an air space at the top of the bucket and opened it up & gave it a stir whenever I remembered to do it.
