Howdy fellers. I'm a first timer. Saw no Germination Forum (how did this important topic get overlooked :) so I'm posting up here, in the tenderfoot area.

A friend gave me some seed from some sort of South American brick weed. No, not auto-flower, but we'll get there, should these work out. The first batch I put in water for 48 hours. At 24 hours they were cracking open and looking like little clams. But they didn't go any further.

At 48 hours I put them on damp paper towels and some stuck their necks out more.

A second batch I left in water only 24 hours, then to paper. They did better and readily started sticking their roots out.

Today I dropped about 20 of these guys into various media, from seed starter, to coir/perlite, to a mix with ferts, just to get a feel for each. We'll see how they do.

Now, the state of Oregon MMJ program (OMMP) says that each plant yields about a pound of marijuana. So I figger we've got about 20 pounds right here! Whoa, boys! OK now, maybe we're getting a little ahead of ourselves. All I can say is, even if these are about 0 THC weed, they're not bad germinators.

And I hope the pictures come out better than they do in this previewer, which isn't showing them at all. If you can't see 'em, let me tell you, they're pretty cool lookin' little seeds. Eat your hearts out.

Hello and welcome to the Network. Looking pretty standard to me. Grow em up! Pound per plant? Perhaps in full sun and good conditions and skills you could get even more with some Photo strains. :D

We include germination within other topics, same reason we don't have a dedicated vegging and flowering section. :D

Hey bro I don't want to seem like mr. doom here but...You really have to be careful with the whole "put them in water" technique. Yes it will "crack" them the fastest, but do realize that as soon as it cracks ur embryo is effectively drowning. Ive had seeds crack in as little as 16 hours in a glass of water. Also the "neck" you are refering to is actually the tap root. AS SOON as the seed has cracked and you can barely see any root trying to come out, they are officially germinated. They should be placed in a seedling planting medium immediately at that point. Yours have gone a lil long bro I hate to tell you. They very well could still be planted (some of them) but you will need to be very, very careful as if you damage or break the taproot, you may as well throw it out and try another one. Some of the ones that are really long may in fact even end up stunted from the stress. My best advice to you is to take the really long ones like the one in the left pic and throw them out now as it will save you time, money, and effort down the road trying to grow them. But as it looks like you still have plenty of good ones left that aren't permanently damaged I would advise you to PLANT THEM IMMEDIATELY with the taproot pointing down (to the bottom of the hole) AND KEEP THE ROOTS OUT OF THE LIGHT! Best of luck

Squid why does it seem like I'm following you around from thread to thread like a lost puppy today LOL ?

Although I follow you and know what you mean, that isn't always true. I have seen some planted with even longer tap-roots and been just fine. A tiny little spike is great IMO. Now with that said, I don't soak or paper towel mine. Easiest/best way to go if you ask me. :D

I got ya squid...I have seen some long ones too. But as he had plenty of seeds and was a self-proclaimed "first timer" I'm just tryna save him some headaches and moolah (each of those seeds gonna need a pot, medium, nutes, etc). He still has plenty of good'uns there to grow out and take care of lol. deuces

Agreed, good man. :D

Squid, thanks for the howdy and feedback. No veg and flowering section, hey? Well, I'll see if I can help you out. Ha, ha.

Shadowbuck, where were you when I was watching the Youtube video on drowning my seeds? Heh. What you describe is exactly what I saw, so chalk it up to learning. Same'll be true of each of the media I put these poor, drowned seeds into. Just figgers -- here's step 1, easiest of them all, and I screwed it up! Just wait until I get to step 2. I know you'll have plenty more to say, mr. doom. :brow:

We just don't have dedicated separate sections for those stages in life. Don't think they're necessary. If any, yes Germination would be ok, but if you search Germination in the search bar, you'll find plenty. Our search engine works pretty well. :D

A pound per plant? Damn, I'm moving to Oregon just because the government says I'll grow better plants. :roflcry:

What kind of mix/ferts is the pre-fertilized mix?
