gotta rib ya a lil... :dance2: :booya: Happy New Year!
Lol was just checking because the directions said place in standing water, gonna give them a try next grow! I always have gnats

I've been using the Mosquito Dunks for just about a year now and they rock. I collect rain water into a 55 gallon barrel and I chuck a puck in there and leave it. Over time, it will crumble up and you can just water the crumbles into the topsoil of your plants. If I see a particularly bad infestation, I also chuck a puck in the 5 gallon bucket that is constantly bubbling for immediate use. Same deal - I leave the puck in there as I use and replace the water. Over time it will crumble up and get watered into the topsoil.

Sticky fly strips are also good to have in the arsenal. Not all sticky fly strips are made the same - I've had really good luck with "Revenge" brand strips. They stay super sticky for weeks. I would avoid "Lure Fly" brand strips. I'm growing under LED's with UV bulbs and I think the UV interacted with the tacky stuff somehow and made it dry up in just a few days. The sides of the strips facing away from the light were still tacky, so I'm only hypothesizing about why the other side lost it's stick factor.

Also, if you have a bad infestation, it's a good idea to brew up some earthworm casting tea with some liquid kelp. This will help give the roots an extra boost to combat the damage from the gnat larva chomping on them.

Gnat Off contains the shit needed to control them little buggers....
ACTIVE INGREDIENT
Bacillus Thuringiensis subspecies
Israeliensis, Dipteran active toxin(s

Have you been using the Gnat Off per the instructions?
And like sniper said, get some sand and use it now....once you have sand on there use some more Gnat Off.
With D.E. I mix it with the sand before adding to the top of my pots, there is no way I would be putting an inch layer of D.E in a pot as you really don't need that much of it.
You can also mix some D.E in with your medium before planting but you will still be wanting to put a layer of sand on the top.

For Fungus Gnats prevention is way easier than the cure, since you know Gnats are in your area use sand and sticky traps ALL the time and they shouldn't bother you again in future grows.

that's the stuff I am using thanks for the tip about the play sand will need to get some I have just edit my first post and add the right info was half asleep in am lol when posting thank you all for a quick rep on how to deal with them

:peace:

Thanks to the help from Stunted, JM and Kindred I will also be using these now as part of my prevention program. Soon these bastards will be gone!
I must say, It is gratifying when I squash one in mid-flight with my hands, they suck at flying, very weak flyers.

:crying: That is the one upside to having them around - you get really good at doing the Mr. Miyagi on them. Good for hand-eye coordination. Fun past-time after medicating heavily.

:crying:[Miyagi karate-chops the head off of a gnat]
Daniel: How did you do that? How did you do that?
Miyagi: Don't know. First time.

That picture sure had me laughing!

looks like one of the plants has taken the hit its not looking happy at all I recon this one is fecked I know for next time when I do the second go to use sand :amazon: to stop these fecking things never had these before and never had any pests the tent is all ways clean in the tent I do wounder how the hell they got there I got the soil from a local grow shop but not used this shop before I fink i am going to stick to my other shop i use for soil next time .

a layer of play sand on top of the soil works for me it looks like a gnat graveyard when they are thick
This works every time... cheap, simple and not messy. Put a 1/2" to 1" layer of white sand (playsand from Walmart.HD/etc,) on top of your soil, water, and forget it. You may see some buzz around for a day or two until they die out, but that's it.

With D.E. I mix it with the sand before adding to the top of my pots, there is no way I would be putting an inch layer of D.E in a pot as you really don't need that much of it.
I love DE and use it in every grow but it is mixed in with my soil mix. From my experience, if you have gnats, you probably didn't use DE when recommended (while mixing the soil). If it improved the kill ratio over the straight sand, I'd be all for adding it to the sand, but you can't improve on 100%. One less step... less expense. :peace:

this work's great, they cant clime out of the soil and cant dig back into it so you kill them inside and out and they can't reproduce..the larva is the real problem and the sand takes care of them......
