Ok so I think I'm slowly getting it, just because a given strain starts to flower at 14.5 hours light at Weed Warrior's house doesn't mean that it will take the same amount of daylight hrs to trigger flowering at my house? It may not flower until light hrs are say 13.4 at my joint? In theory I can grow the same strains as him and end up with big plants still? I must be driving you guys insane sorry

I think its more like utilizing the increasing light regime time period to halt flower...then pretty much expect them(most strains) to hop into preflower shortly after the longest day and the natural regime starts a decrease.

Not driving me crazy at all bud...this is a fascinating discussion!!

Even for me...strains like green poison fast, start to preflower immediately after the drop in daylight hours. Obviously I have underestimated the power of the increasing natural light regime!!

It's only taken 7 months for me to get it but better late than never I suppose . 13:35 minutes of light on my longest day according to the link you put up Waira. Thanks for being so patient guys, I'm a dumbass I know . I can understand an autos lighting needs though

yes, as long as the light is increasing,.... I think in part your girls run longer because of the weather/cool,... I'm still amazed and impressed my friend at how well you do up there!

My idea for bigger plants near the tropics is simple: long, long flowering Sativas.
Find some 14+ week plants.
DP has Santa Marta Haze and Desfran / Destroyer,
Green House has a number of long Hazes, etc.
Mr Nice has a long of long Sativas as well.
Or try specialists like Ace Seeds, or World of Seeds,
where there are a number of plants with long flowering times.

Colombian, Thai, Malawian, Congolese, Panamanian,
Laotian, Cambodian, Honduran, Guatemalan, that kind of thing.
Or find a good seed bank with harvest time selection options.
And "hardiness" and "mold resistance" selections. Like this.

If it flowers in 20 weeks, that's 5 months, and plenty time to get huge!

And these plants have grown in high heat for a long time.

People often assume "tropical" = "humid", but not necessarily.
Many places have "dry" seasons, and altitude

Yeah, sorry, I was offline most of the last day and I come back to some DEEP reading! Just finished catching up and I think I am catching on. But I’ll say this.....I’m damn glad there are more seeds in those packs than I need!!! Lol! That way, if I screw up at first, I can start again! I’m going to be curious what the DP and SS reps have to say about the strains (I think “chemovar” is the correct term - will it ever catch on?) I chose from them. I think I’ll message both of them and I’ll certainly post any reply. Thanks to my friend @Weed Warrior for that suggestion!

All those clowns that say "uhhh, it's just a damn weed, how hard can it be?!" are talking right out their fart hatches.... No, it's not rocket science, but there is plenty of science involved, and the no-substitute-for factor called "experience"! Sure, you can chuck some seeds in the dirt and do next to nothing, but expect results in kind even with quality genetics ,...most of us don't roll that way, we want to reap the dividends that skills, products and proper care will bring- ............. GB, I know you're Aussieland, but where in latitude? Are you nearer the equator, and so have less light hour variance?

hey Miss M! I second that- ... all this talk about those Sativa's is making me frisky- ... especially Desfran! I'd add CannaBioGen to that list (Destroyer is their version),... To scratch that itch though I'm going to run that African speed queen Lilly, from Original Delicatessen.....

I'm around 22 south in central Queensland still a little ways from the equator. Our longest day is 13:35 and shortest is 10:40 I'm also about 350 km from the coast so my environment is a little different from most Aussies.

You're not wrong there man! I grow thousands of acres of stock feed/ grain every year as well as a pretty good vegetable garden and canna is by far the trickiest thing to grow WELL that I have ever tried growing! It nearly makes me cringe when people say it's a weed and easy to grow. Understanding it's nutrient needs alone was a little complicated compared to a lot of other things I've grown, then throw in trying to comprehend the lighting hours of photo plants really made my head hurt! It's a real credit to guys and gals that have never grown any sort of plants before attempting growing cannabis for the first time and managing to get to the finish line with relative success
