so im doing a single plant grow in a 4 foot tent. but i realize that i might not have enough vertical height room. so my question is, would my plant grow alright if i was just to put it on the floor in my spare bedroom with my grow light above it without using any reflective materials. everywhere i read says you always need reflective material, but i notice that larger medical growers usually just have a bunch of plants on tables with lights above. there not wrapping mylar and stuff around there plants.

The benefits of using a tent are not only the extra reflective surfaces, but also being able to easily control the environment and smell.

If none of this is an issue, you could put them in a room with a light above like larger growers do.
You could also get some flat panels .. cover them with mylar and stand them around your plant in the room!

Or you could train the plant using LST (low stress training, or if it's young enough - maybe even try a higher stress training menthod like topping - there's guides here for that!)

that will work just fine the mylar and other products are just to bounce/reflect light around that will be lost without it but you will still be able to grow a nice plant
:pass:

Yes you can grow like this BUT it's more efficient to reflect the light hitting the sides of a tent back to the plant than it is to allow it to disperse into a room. Medical growers that grow multiple plants tend to fill the footprint of a light with their crop. A single plant won't do this so you'll be wasting your light.

yeah see factoring in my grow light height and my pot height i only have room for about a 1 foot ormaybe 1 foot and a few inches for maximum plant height. i dont even know if topping and lst would be able to keep a plant that short. but if i was to just put it in room and hang a light over it, then i would have no issues with height and could scrog or lst for a flat even canopy for best use of the light.

and im assuming i could just put a carbon filter and fan in room venting out window to reduce odor?
would a 139 cfm fan be enough for ventilation if my room is 120 square feet

My first grows only had 30-40 of headroom (in a modified tool storage cupboard) under a large CFL and reflector - It was far from ideal.

If possible i'd get a bigger (taller) tent. I'd say less than $100 should get something suitable. I'd say that money will pay itself off in potential yeild and the ability to control the environment (especially the smell) better.

:D

i have gave a few plants main cola a 90 bend just before they touched the light in the past, and they didnt seem to complain.

Absolutely not!! If the Base of the room is 120 square feet, the cubic measurement is gonna be massively different. My 2m3 tent needs 140m3/h to filter efficiently. You can use this tool to figure it out - https://www.hydroponics.eu/calculating-size-capacity-air-exchange-of-your-extractor-fan_575.html

I've probably calculated this wrong but if it's 120ft x 120ft x 200cm you'll need a fan rated at 1872926 m3/h..... [emoji44] surely that's not right. All I know is you're deffo gonna need a larger fan to filter a whole room [emoji23]

If you are doing an open room grow, then you would need a pretty damn large fan/filter which would be costly and the room would need to seal well.
