Live Stoner Chat HEY HEY everyone! Newbie auto-grower here..Got any advice for a gal??

HAHA NO WORRIES! Sometimes words dont come out right and I feel like Im typing for the first time! Thanks for info on soil. The book is Hella informative. Definitely worth checking out. Seems like they really know what there doing. Im just trying to get info/tips from as many resources as possible. The book suggests FOX FARM as well but more specifically the Fox Farm Ocean Forest Potting Soil with Ph ranging from 6.3-6.8.. Wonder what the difference between the happy frog and ocean forest are?!? I think im gonna stop by local shop after work and compare the two.
:Sharing One:

Happy Frog is a soil mix consisting of forest humus, earthworm castings, bat guano, mycorrhizae bacteria and humic acid and more. FFOF consists of earthworm castings, bat guano, and Pacific Northwest sea-going fish and crab meal. Composted forest humus, sandy loam, and sphagnum peat moss. FFOF is definitely a hot soil and can burn autos if you start directly in it due the extra fish and crabmeal. Happy Frog is more suitable for germing in the final pot, though I find it a bit too heavy & needing some perlite. I did my last run with 1/3 FFOF, 1/3 FFHF, and 1/3 perlite and had good results. If you're using any Fox Farms soil, be sure to test it and get the pH sorted out before you start growing. I fought low pH throughout my last grow because I believed the claims that it's 6.3-6.5 right out of the bag (it was mid 5s).

With FFOF you can go around 3 weeks without feeding, and with FFHF maybe 2 or so.

Welcome headyladybudz!! I too bought that book to see if i was any good since there is not really much out there that seems all that solid about autos. But after reading it and giving a good rating on amazon,Im pretty certain that if ya follow it well, you'll have a permagrin in no time flat. The biggest thing imho that youll run across is, making sure you have patients.thtas the biggest thing most any grower will tell ya once your off and growing.relax and goo with the flow.best wishes and growing karma flyin your way ladybudz.:pass: heres to your first grow :smokeit::tiphat:

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

Andy- I plan on just soaking my seed then going to final pot soo I'll probably opt for Happy Frog then.. Don't really want extra heat.. My lights probably gonna be hot enough as is.. Don't really wanna get both HF and OF so if i'll be good with just the HF and adding perlite, Ill probably just go that route. Thanks for the info!! :-)

Eyes On Fire..love your name btw lol thanks for tips.. Patience is KEY no doubt! I am very anxious don't get me wrong (reason why choosing autos).. I am hoping they go as scheduled but I am ready to expect longer timing. Don't wanna rush these ladies bc I want them at their best.

I will be much more at ease once everything arrives.. I am trying to not let that drive me crazy lol
Once I get my supplies and most importantly the girls , I will have what I need then the FUN will begin..Until then waitinggg..

TODAY has been a great day..Got my tent..no problems there setting up..Still waiting on lighting but I already purchased intake fan/filter..Did not realize how heavy the fan is..Have no idea how to set this up..Was planning on fan inside attached to ducting to filter on outside.. I feel like i don't have any way of supporting the fan up high bc of the weight..kinda freaking out..ANY IDEAS ANYONE??

Ohhh yeahh..the girls just got here too :-) :-) :-)

Hang your fan out side the tent.
most fans make noise even the quietest will have hum that will drive you nuts and have people asking "whats that noise"
so if you can hang it with some bungee cords it will take that buzz out of your room.
Also, I know there are some really great growers out there that do the paper towel thing with their beans and wait until they open up and the tails show.
From personal experience if found that i can shock the seed if I even breath on the stupid thing. SOOOO what I do and have had 100% success is the wet paper towel in a zip lock bag, I set it on something warm but not hot (water heater) for about 4-6 hours then I stick it in the dirt. It will pop in 1 to 2 days Then I will keep it moist with an eye dropper so I dont disturb the teeny tiny hairs on the baby root.

Just saying that this works for me. :wiggle:
It really sucks to loos a bean.

If you wrap yor fan with a towel or some insulation it will quiet it down.
and get a muffler for it.
you can get these things very quiet but you have to do some stuff.

Ahh okay interesting. I am about to go back to the grow shop after work ( I feel like im there 24/7 now lol) and see how they have their's setup and get some advice from them as well on fan situation.. If I can have it outside then I think that would be very ideal..I still plan on having probably like 2 small fans on the floor in tent for air flow. As far as germination, I plan on soaking seeds in water then planting directly to final pots.. I don't even wanna mess with the paper towel method(s)..I'd prefer they just do their thing totally in pots. I have had mixed reviews on this but its my instinct telling me this way so we shall see. I will probably do this beginning of next week. I went ahead and got my soil. After chatting with grow shop employees, I decided to go with FFOF and Roots Coco.. I plan on mixing the two maybe with a little more OF then Coco. ( and I said I wasn't gonna mix lol, this shouldnt be too hard to get right..) I wanna water the soil once a few days prior to planting and check Ph on the reg. Hoping I get my light today so i can set that up and see how it all flows.. Hopefully intake fan/filter situation is resolved soon.

As far as seeds.. I am doing all Cream Caramel and one freebie I got.. Its a DinaFem Strand, one being critical and one being amnesia..I can only plant one of those for now bc of space..Any opinions on which to go with?!?!

Also with the fan I purchased , the box makes a point to advertising its *low noise qualities* so hopefully it will be on the less noisy side.. Hoping a little noise might scare my cat away tho bc shes curious as all hell. I might end up keeping her in a bedroom when I am not home, not really trying to have her claw the grow room down lol

sorry joe just realized you said even the ones with low noise make noise..whoopss.well we shall see.. I just gotta go back to the shop and chat with them. If I can have it on the outside , I might not even need the same setup I got. I have to have something for odor, no doubt about that, but I might have gotten an unnecessary option .
