Hi all I'm germinating my seeds now and was just wondering if they will be ok going straight into the compost I have. It is Verve multi-purpose from b&q. they going straight under a 400w hps with a fan over them. Will this compost burn my seeds do you think? And if they do burn will they sort themselves out/recover?

Welcome mate :tiphat: I`m not familiar with that brand of multi purpose. Imho, strain selection can make a lot of difference, as some handle `soil heat` a lot better than others! If you are worried about frying` em, then get a small(5-10 litre)bag of reputable seedling compost(with, lol ...John Innes or similar) and start them in smaller pots, then cut bottom off and tier into larger pots with your B &Q multi-purpose(rather than transplant!) "My 2 cents" ...:Sharing One:

Normally 3 bags for £12.... Best compost I've used so far. Would recommend it to anyone :)

And as Krug says, a seedling soil with JI works really well, just to get them going (I'm using Homebases dirt cheap version on multiple plants, all with perfect results), .

Nope.... Been using that brand of soil for more than 5 years..... Just add around 30% perlite and your good to go.....

How about you put up a grow log on your project? "new Grower Forum" is a great place to start out "My 2 cents"

Dont hesitate to ask if you need any help getting around :Sharing One:

Welcome to the family! :tiphat:
I see the polls are still open, so I'll cast my vote for starting a journal, as well!
Glad you're with us, r1984!

Hi all again thanks for all the replys and yeah I'll deffo get on a diary, the way things are at the moment I've got 3 northern light autos just starting to sprout and 3 regular (2 big bang 2 and 1 power africa) which I'm also gunna do 12/12 straight from seed. I would of liked to have done the autos on 18/6 but due to where I live and nosey neighbours and the flying pig in the sky I thought it would be a safer bet to do 12/12. Will set up a grow diary later tonight. Happy growing peeps :)

Hi r1984,

welcome to AFN, as Krug said, the John Innes seed compost is great. Or as NW said, just add the perlite. Don't ya just love the spot on good advice that you get so quickly here at AFN This place is the best. You will be chuffed you joined I'm sure.
Also, if your grow room is tight on space, then chuck the Power Africa. imho its a poor variety. I bet that was a freebie from the rhino ???
