Hi all,

Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Ken357 and I have a little experience with auto flowering plants but my old school experience is actually more with classic photoperiod plants. In the Lowryder days I worked closely with a seedbank located in the UK. I bred and cross bred various strains of AF for them. I soon quit the breeding because I realized that others were much better than I was in this highly specialized field. The only advantage I had was plenty of space to do the covert breeding and seed cropping. The AF plants appealed to me because they were dwarfs back then and we sent the seeds all over the world to medicinal users. For me it was charity as I never made a penny doing it. Nowadays legislation around the world has changed benefitting the medicinal users so the need for dwarfs was diminishing. Therefore growing AF's for me now is purely out of curiosity. I tend to stick to photoperiod strains actually.
Anyway, I hope to take part in this community and share some knowledge with you all. Thanks for letting me join!

Cheers, Ken357

Welcome to AFN Ken, happy to see you here. Autos he certainly come a long way since the time you mention. Do you have any autos going at the moment?

Hey oldster, we just harvested 1 auto of the first AutoFrisianDew (green pheno). Grown outside in Holland. Compared to the photoperiod FD it does share the flavor but not the potency or the rock hard nuggets. I might try the new line of AFD (purple pheno) next year. But this would be purely for fun.
One of the main reasons I tend to grow classic photoperiod plants is because I'm also into butane (CO2 in the future) extraction and vac purging after an alcohol wash. The yield with auto's has been quite disappointing compared the photoperiod plants. Added the fact that you can't clone AF's. I like to find a super pheno and then clone it for future grows.
My next project is going to be DP's Orange Hill Special and after that I'll be growing Desfrán. I must say, I still have some Lowryder 1 pollen from an extremely fast flowering male in my freezer and it sure is tempting to pollinate an OHS or Desfrán clone in the summer. So, who nows what the future holds?

Hi Ken, nice intro. Glad to have you on board so we can share our knowledge with each other. Enjoy all that is AFN.

eP.

Welcome to AFN. Ken! Anything you need, feel free to hit me up! We have a great source of information if you need it! Looking forward to your journal and happy growing!

Hey Ken

You sound like a valuable addition to the family. Hope you enjoy your stay here and share your wisdom with us. Ofc we're here for you too.

Welcome Ken! :)

I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised with where auto's are right now. In addition to (I'm sure you know)
the gains in non-psychoactive CBD's with the inclusion of Ruderalis genes, the work to improve the thc levels
of autos since the LR1 days has yielded (ehh?, see what I did there?) huge gains in that department.
IIRC, the 25% mark has now been eclipsed for autos...so pretty much on par with the photos now.

Have you been looking at any strains in particular?

If you want to get out right in front with the most modern strains and see where they are now, I might suggest
some Dinafem XXL series...they seem to be enjoying some nice results with size, yield, trich coverage, potency...etc.

And a lot of folks here on AFN are having a TON of great results with Mephisto gear. Mitch is the Jefe there and
has a strong presence here on AFN.

Poke your nose around for a while and see what appeals to you!

Again, welcome!

Hey Trapper, I guess I'll have a look at Dinafem's again. I grew 2 of their "AutoExtreme" (collaboration with Dutch-passion) last year. That with mixed results. 2 very different pheno's showed up.
Anyway, you convinced me to try again next year. I'll use Plagron Light Mix this time. I feel the modern AF's are basically light feeders.
Well, I'm off to see a man about a horse.
Thanks again guys!

Hey guys! Thanks for all the kind words! I'm looking forward to sharing info and knowledge with you! Chewing the proverbial fat so to speak...
