I'm new to this whole world of growing and decided to start off with some autos.
1 White Widow and 1 LowRyder to kick things off. My plan was to make this as effortless as possible to see what kind of harvest I could get. So far I'm about 9 weeks in and things are looking pretty darn good.
I started both inside under a 6500k CFL in 3" starter pots with a 18/6 light cycle. 21 days in I repotted into 2 gallons, and put them both under standard fluorescents (1 6500k and 1 3100k). A little bit of nutes a week later, and the WW got moved into my greenhouse. The LowRyder moved out there a week after that.
I've only given them nutes two times since then, mostly just keeping them watered and letting nature do its thing. The LowRyder has gotten crazy tall (over 27" now), despite the reports of them not usually getting more than 16". The WW is looking nice and sticky and I'm guessing will be harvested in a week or so, while the LowRyder flowers just keep getting bigger and fatter.
I think I'll be more than happy with the harvest considering the amount of work I've put in, and that was the whole plan. Simple, simple, simple, and let them do their thing. I'm keeping notes on the grow but didn't really think that my first attempt was worth keeping a journal on here. Maybe I'll document the next one with pics here on AFN.
I've got a couple more autos germinating now, a Northern Lights and a Super Skunk. Next stop will be some non-autos outside, maybe in a hoop house or cold frame type structure just to keep them protected from unexpected cold nights.
All in all this is pretty damn fun, and it's always exciting when I check on them and see noticeable growth on a daily basis. These plants are amazing! BTW, my avatar pic is one of the big leaves on the LowRyder that I snapped about 2 weeks ago and it's sitting directly on my hand. Crazy big!
