Hey everyone i just got my first ph pen meter and i bought the 7.0 reference solution. Im growing in promix bx soil and the tap water ph is 7.0-7.2.

I need to get it down to i think 6.2 but idk how. I bought the ph down solution and applied a few squirts to 2 one-liter bottles of tap water. I waited a few minutes and checked the ph and it hadnt changed much.

How long do i need to wait for the ph to go down? Also am i missing any other important info about PHing with promix? thanks

:smokebuds:

you just need to keep adding the ph down until it gets around 6.3 - 6.5 and then you are good to go, give the bottles a good shake when you add it in

First off tap water has chlorine, be sure set it out 24 hrs ahead of time.

Now to your question. Ph by slowing adding up or down and check recheck after just a few drops at a time. Its easy as hell to over add down and up. If you screw up ph level you have 1 official option only. Add more water to the mix. If nutes are involved it becomes a mess. I dont recommend adding ph up to correct water you phed down.

When you stir be sure to do so heavily so the ph down gets a chance to mix in well. Dont try phng the water will the current from mizing is still swirling let water stand then check and make another adjustment.
Now if you have a shot glass, measuring spoon what have you, you can measure and write down what it took to get your ph to your level, and have a starting point for next time around, just add slowly at time even though.

What brand ph down did you get South? I use the general hydroponics line and it takes 3 drops per gallon of distilled water(ph7.0) to get me to 5.85ph.i add it in,shake it up,wait 10 minutes and check it with my ph pen. What nutes are you going to use with your promix? Promix is a soiless medium and you u ph it like a hydro grow so 5.5-6.3

The ph down is called Aqueo PH Minus and I have biobizz grow for now, im not sure when to start using that yet. Promix has starter nutrients to last the first week or two so i was thinkin at 7 days start with a light feed

I'd hold off on feeding at 7 days and wait till day 14 UNLESS they show signs of being hungry(yellowing). You should also try to keep track of the amount of ph down your using to make it easier the next time you do it.I go by drops for small batches or tspns. for big batches of nutes.Example 5gallons of water for me is 1 tablespoon to drop it from 7.7 to 5.8.

Is that a pool / spa pH down? Aqueos is a brand of pool chemicals, isn't it?

yeah i got it at the pet store i think its intended for aquariums but water is water and ph is ph so i think its the same

Water is water is not true. Grab a ppm meter and you will see what falls from my tap is not same from yours, even though we share same ph. Even more so, water compounds each carry more or less minerals as well. Take that further and water testings will show what elements is in the water, like when a well is dug. This is the biggest reason why nutrient bases may need cal-mag, n, p, k, or numerous other trace or main elements added to the water. As well why many a well dug is not or human consumption.

If water was water, I could use shit that sat in my backyard in an old tire with rotten leafs in it.

You did nail ph somewhat. If you are in a swimming pool enviroment the water inside needs to be at a level it dont eat your skin off. Add in the cholroine to disinfect people pissing in it, and away we go.

Seriously you could ph water with baking soda, lime juice or pool spa shit, but the pool spa/ aquarium crap is meant for harsher waters then what land plants use, and dont take into account ppm's. Meaning what trace elements are in the crap? You ppm a pool/aqaurium for different reans, its to add chlorine or change stagnant overly rich water. Opposite end of a growers spectrum. We are trying to enrichen water knowing its base, not kill unwanted waste.

There is a reason there is aquarium ph adjustments, pool adjustments and hydro grow adjustments.

In the old days I seen people using battery acid to lower ph, it worked, but I ponder if I wanted the waste water near me, let alone smoke their stuff.

I generally steer of other peoples stuff out of my circle for many reasons.

BTW, wonder what the metal count is in the crap your using versus true hydroponic stuff. Chemical companies get away with alot. Hydroponic ph has some of the same make up but different ways they go about it. Did you know pool/aquarium ph has conditioners in it for skin? Ppm your water and report back the mineral content before it hits a plant. Go one step further, use organic up and down, baking soda or lime as needed, then have a mineral analysis be interested to see the results.

The treatment plant your water came from, is as well a different enviroment then a plants needs. Not many pot plants want chlorine. I have had several grows once plants became adjusted I could add chlorine water straight off tap, not ph'd and go. but then it took me forever to condition the soil and plant to the enviroment I subjected it to. And none were in soil-less medium /hydro.

FYI - pool water isnt meant to drank, and plants dont grow not drinking. Just my .02.

i dont have a ppm meter but since my ph minus isnt working right i will use vinegar to drop the ph
