Grow Mediums Hydro-newb help

what are some cheaper CO2 options?

Well, there are a bunch of DIY techniques that are very cost effective...I can't speak to those as I'm lazy and buy Exhale Bags or Boxes of Mushrooms...:)

I used Exhale bags on my first grow but the MyCo2bag boxes are an improvement in that they aren't activated until the consumer "activates" it.
The Exhale bags are activated the moment they are produced so you pay for CO2 expended while it's waiting on a shelf to be bought....

But like I said....many youtube & other instructional vids and threads on DIY (or "Redneck") CO2 generators.

I was curious about LEDs but the prices for me right now are to high for the wattage i need apparently.

Well, there are plus's and minus's to all the different lighting choices...that equate to savings and expenditures in other departments of a sound grow environment.

The benefits of LED are light quality, power consumption (for the amount of usable light you're getting) and very little heat emitted. The draw backs are Cal/Mag consumption and initial expense.

My 2 cents.

I understand what your saying about lighting. The hps price is more in my range for now. Can you explain the Myco2 bag a little? Looks like the link u sent me was for growing mushrooms.

The side effect of it is growing mushrooms....the primary effect is giving off CO2 :) for growing plants in a tent...CO2 is slightly heavier than ambient air, so you hang the box above the grow and the CO2 gently cascades over the canopy of the plants, stimulating growth and stimulating trichome production (I think)

Your grow, your call...my point was that you may find that incandescents make your grow area too hot, requiring the purchase of other equipment to cool it back down...so, final analysis, do you actually end up spending less? They also use more power (as it relates to the efficiency of the light being emitted) Heat is basically a side effect of inefficient transfer of power to light. (Is the way I understand it) Less heat, more efficient transfer of power to useable light.

But I certainly understand the:

Low initial outlay of funds & MacGyver the rest as best you can until another pay period or two.....nothing wrong with that approach to get started. :)

Trapper, are you venting out of your tent? Doesn't that take a lot of any extra CO2 before it can be used?

Not set up yet, but I'll be drawing exhaust out the hottest part of the tent, the top (heat rising and all) and drawing in ambient air (with CO2) from the bottom vents (which will circulate due to fans) in addition to adding supplemental CO2 from above.

If you were to draw your exhaust from the very bottom of the tent, yes, that would draw out the heavier CO2 before it could be used....

HPS in budding is still the preferred method you will will grow great buds bro. thick huge buds if kept at decent temps i have used bathroom exhuast fans and the box they came in to magyver a vent fan they are as cheap as 20 bucks and throw out the cfms

Awesome tips guys, I really appreciate your input. Correct me if im wrong but heres what I've gathered...in my 4x8 i want 2 600watt hps, 4 site rdwc, filter and exhaust up high to rid heat, myCO2 bags somewhere in between the light and the canopy of the plants, i need my res outside the grow area to help with the water temp which should be __? Other than nutrients i think i got it down enough to start?
