I got a Worm Farm!

I have the exact same model. Been running it about 3 years now, couldn't be happier w that investment!!. I feed my worms cow manure, coffee grounds, eggshells & Plenty of moistened newspaper. I layer the paper on top of the worm food to also provide much needed moisture. Make SURE you don't toss in any onions etc. or citrus.! It will kill your entire colony. You can also purchase red wriggler worms from any bait shop, they are what ya want. Hope this helps you out a bit.

I am hoping to get a few restaurant scraps to help generate enough food the start to grow the farm. I work at a restaurant part time but the trick is going to be getting the right food scraps. I also live near many local farms I think I might be able to get some cow or buffalo manure. Any other suggestions for good food sources? Can I feed them my fan leaves and stems?

Great LongBottomleaf,

This is cool, great job so far I would assume.

Gonna have some pics soon?

Get coffee grounds rather than food scraps. Most coffee shops will gladly save them for you. They are plentiful, and have more nutrients than most other things you can feed them. Manure, especially horse manure are what all the commercial worm farms use. You want COMPOSTED manure not fresh. Storing food scraps can get stinky unless you freeze them. I froze about 40 pounds of pumpkin in portions in ziplocks. I marked them Worm Food ......lol! I've got another 40 lbs of free pumpkins to process! Anything that’s been pre-composted works also

Stems?? not sure what your asking. The bottom is usually lined with newspaper and bedding can be shredded newpaper, paper towel. No glossy paper. I used recycled Promix as bedding. The high peat moss content makes it good bedding and they get extra nutrients from eating the old roots in the mix.

Worms should be here on Wednesday and I will take some pictures of the whole set up then.
