Hello AFN,

I have finally set up my GrowLab GL40 tent, but I have one (technically two) important item(s) that I am missing. It is the fan for my tent. I have been looking at other GL40 grow journals and setups, but all that is written are 4 inch inline fan with no exact name of the product that they are using.

So, I was wondering if it is possible if you guys and gals could recommend some fans for this beginner.
Unfortunately, my current budget went from good to bad after some family issues, and my budget is now around $60 to $100 USD. I am willing to pay just a bit more if I need to.

I understand that I should get a carbon filter with the fan, but I believe cooling/airflow is more important at the moment, than cleaning the smell.

Thank you all for your help.

4" or 5" RVK fan.

Good fans and not very loud. You can always wrap and tape some insulation around the unit to dampen the sound even more and then suspend it via bungee cables to stop any vibrations.

Thanks guys for the information. They are a bit above the budget range, but I will definitely look more into them.

I prefer to stay away from Craigslist. I usually use amazon for most of my purchases, but occasionally I would use ebay if I must.

Check out hydrofarm or ventech fans on amazon I have one of each and I'm pretty sure they were both under $100

I hope I may ask a few more questions about these fans.

1. How long have you guys had your fans?
2. Are they being used with a fan controller?
3. How loud is motor and the air flowing out of them?
4. Are they easy to install and operate?

Thanks again for the information and recommendation guys!

wassup man ill try to help u a bit.

1. Ive had my 6 inch hydrofarm fan over a year and my 6 inch ventech roughly 4 months havent had a problem with either. i also previously owned a 4 inch hydrofarm fan and had it for a long time before i sold it and got a new one and it never had problems.

2. I dont use a speed controller just because i use HPS so i like my fans full blast all the time since where i live can be hot but they are handy and i probaly should get one.

3. Both fans arent terribly loud, once u have ducting and stuff around it that makes it quieter as well but you will be able to hear it. i actually have both in my bedroom where i sleep so i kinda adapted to the sound after awhile its actually weird when they go off its so silent im not used to it lol but if sounds an issue i blieve they make mufflers that can quite them.

4. Very easy to install just screw it in or place wherever u want and plug her in as far as operating i dont got a speed contoller so i just keep mine going hope that helps some man :Sharing One:

Hey fweedom, thanks a bunch for the quick reply. I have been eyeing those fans for a while, but I have seen some other ones which are starting to go on sale and becoming in my budget range.

I have been looking around for a fan speed controller, but it seems most of them have okay to bad ratings. Apparently the VenTech fan is brush-less and does not work well with the fan controllers.

I am going to look around some more to see if there is one that has a higher compatibility with those fans.
