I don't suppose anyone can offer some advice on scrogs? From what I've seen, this appears to a good technique, I'd like to give it a try. Building the actual frame shouldn't be an issue, but I'm wondering what the best material for the actual screen would be. I'm thinking of just drilling holes in the frame and tieing garden string though it.

Are there any definite no no's for scrogging? Pvc pipe would seem the obvious choice, but I have read a couple of diaries in which people say pvc is no good because it can give off fumes. Any truth to this?

Any pointers much appreciated.

PVC frame is fine. Just make sure all the glue is thoroughly dry. It might be an extra few dollars, but I've seen some wicked nice scrogs made out of a wooden 2x4 frame with little full eye hooks spaced evenly and twisted in fully till the eye is flush to the wood. You can score a box of them for a few bucks. Same thing as your holes idea, just looks a little more tidy. For the actual SCROG itself, make sure the material/string is of sufficient thickness so it doesn't cut. You want something like a braided or multi strand line....stay away from monofilament type lines, as they are "sharp". Something soft here, with good tensile strength, and pull the lines tight. As for spacing and hook placement, this is a personal preference, but I would say 3.5" to 4.5" squares should get you there. Just read a few SCROG tutorials, and start with some real early LST with pipe cleaners to get the tops branching low and you should be fine. At the VERY least, you should increase the amount of colas and have a nice even canopy. With some experience, you can easily double your normal harvest, ESPECIALLY if you are in a vertically confined space. Play and tweak and tweak and play and touch and grab and yank and tie and pull...it's a fun hands on hobby, that is very rewarding, and I promise that the local dudes slanging the "Loud" on the corner ain't ever smoked some Mephisto grown with love and SCROGGED the fuck out....but you can. I have a load of pvc pipe here already from another project. Also got some elbow joints etc so should be easy enough to put together.

I originally planned to grow one plant and let it do its thing, but after putting the light, the carbon filter and the fan in there, it became clear that height will probably be an issue, so if the scrog does nothing more than giving me an even canopy, I'll be calling it a success, lol.
