hey guys! was on over at grasscity and came across a thread under lighting of a guy who made a fixture of 6 led light bulbs. he prys the plastic bulb off and uses them like that. got me curious so i got 4 of the 17w 6500k ones and mounted them on a box shaped 4 way splitter on a light socket . they're friggin' bright as hell! pulls 68w. covers 2ft+ area 2ft above the plants. thought i would share this as its ideal for a 1-2 plants closet grow and a lot brighter than similar watt cfls. should get better penetration as well. gonna use this one in between my 2 600w leds as supplemental lighting. anyone else try this?

first saw this on utube bigclive i think it was.Mr.Sparkle is also doing something with led lightbulb conversion in a bucket grow, intersting stuff for small grows.
good luck.

Dude don't waste your time with cfl lights. If u want decent bud buy the led lights like Mars or whatever. Or build your own cob . Trust me you won't regret it. Those lil cfl light are garbage and an electrical fire waiting to happen.

i have 2 viparspectra 600w leds already. I'm talking about the led lightbulbs, not cfls. cfls do stink. thats why I'm recommending trying are these led lightbulbs for closet/ bucket grows or for people who can't afford a led light. much better/ brighter than cfls i.m.o. worth a look at!

I know which light tour talking about just a mis fire lol. Used to dudes trying to use em. U can cut those lights up and use em. But the area they will cover is bout useless less u got twenty sitting all together. Myself I wouldn't waste my time, but to each their own.

Just as an interjection, you can grow plenty of fine bud with cfls.

But we're talking about the screw in led bulbs so i will counter @buzzyman32 that the off the shelf led bulbs are a great source for lighting for medium to small sized grows, and efficiency wise they are actually pretty decent, and on other forums there are plenty of people getting great results from screw in led bulbs only.

As photons of energy are just that, so as long as whatever source we decide on can provide that to our plants in a somewhat efficient means then we have the ability to grow great plants, so they should definitely not be discounted, and yes as @archie gemmill said i am currently running three 8w dismantled ones in a 5 gal bucket grow, so we will get to see what they can do so long as my plant behaves.

But the old adage rings true in don't knock it till you try it, as these bulbs are definitely worth while, just pop the domes off and your in business.

Honestly ill probably start up a thread shortly here on AFN as screw in leds are a perfectly viable option and they definitely have their place, they just aren't represented on these forums, but i can already envision the nay sayers as i don't grow big because i don't need/want too, so its gonna be hard to convince people they are a viable option without doing bigger plants so ill be expecting some push pack for that.

But @steve bossie go for it ;)

well i had to do it! got a widows peak auto to 8 weeks under 8 17w 5000k leds on 2 4 way splitters only. plant looks great! nice and green! used g.h flora nutes w/ cal./mag. she's 3' by3' and bushy. grown this strain under my 600w viparspectra and the results are just about the same, which amazes me! id post pics but my phone doesn't have data right now. I'm flushing her right now but once i dry some ill let you guys know how she smokes. i really got to make a fixture now!

The par is probably similar and the spectrum is better with the screw in's. I'm not surprised at all. Vs isn't good at all.
