Also don't forget to look at the real wattage that the unit draws from the wall, not the company-quoted wattage.

You are smart to look at the real wattage. In fact, the general lights are what you pay for. For example, a 300w led grow light,If "true 300w" means "does this light draw 300w from the wall receptacle," then no, it certainly does not draw 300w. It means the total of what the emitters are rated for is 300w, which does not tell you how much the drivers actually push to them.
