Mephisto Genetics Legends Mephisto Lair

Hey Legend, you might try a product called SM 90. I've read a lot of reviews where people use it to get rid of fungus gnats. It also promotes healthy new roots and gets rid of molds and mildews in your soil, coco or hydro. People also use it as a foliar spray to protect from or eliminate spider mites, and they even spray it on their buds to protect from or eliminate bud rot.

I bought some, but haven't used it yet. It's an all-natural food safe product that's made primarily from canola oil and coriander extract. People also say they like the way it makes their buds taste and some folks even use it as a flavor enhancer.

Yeah I got an all natural organic pesticide that's made from peppermint oil Rosemary oil cedar oil and one other thing I can't remember. It's definatley taking out the adults but those damn larvae are the real issue the adults don't really bother much. I know hydrogen peroxide mixed with water works for a fact because I did that when I had fox farm soil and it got rid of all of them. The only problem is I don't want to kill the beneficial bacteria in my soil but I guess that's looking like the prime choice right now because I know it's worked for me before.

On another forum I read where a guy growing in organic soil wrote the company that makes SM 90 and asked if using the product killed the good micro-organisms in organic soil. The company rep replied that they honestly didn't know; they hadn't tested that, but that they would immediately begin testing to see how SM 90 effected beneficials in organic soils. When they were done with their tests they wrote the guy back and reported that they could see no reduction in the populations of the good micro-organisms.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that I'll order some now!

Hey Legend, just to clarify things, SM-90 does kill micro-organisms, but it only kills the anaerobic kind. The "friendly herd" of beneficials you wisely wish to cultivate are all aerobic oxygen breathing critters. I've been doing some research on it today, and am finding many organic growers using and praising the product and they are using it in conjunction with products containing beneficials.

As far as the fungus gnats go, most people who use SM 90 from day one before a gnat invasion ever occurs report that they no longer get the nasty things. But I've seen mixed reviews coming from people who already have a serious gnat problem. Some people reported it killed the adults but not the larvae. Another guy said he doubled up on the amount used for a couple of times and that killed the larvae too.

Yeah I just hope it works to kill the gnats! I know too much hydrogen peroxide will sterilize the soil. The only good thing about the peroxide is its dirt cheap. But I went ahead and ordered the SM-90 so if it doesn't work then I'll resort to the peroxide. It'll take a little time to know if it works or not because these suckers have a long cycle but I should know in the first week or so if it knocked he numbers down. I mean it's getting bad lol I put sticky traps in there and they turn black in 24 hours. I can just see 50-100 of them hovering over my 7 plants. Honestly though no plants are really showing any damage they mainly hurt the seedlings and new sprouts. Either way I want these nasty little f**kers gone! I appreciate the input someone recommended sm-90 before for something and I never did order it but now it's on the way. From here on out I'll keep a prevention plan in place. I didn't have any of these untill I bought the roots soil though that's the shitty part.

Thanks man, yeah they're annoying as crap to get rid of. I'll keep you updated though!

I use reptile sand on top of my soil about 3/4 of an inch deep and this dose the trick for me. I use reptile sand because it won't crust up and make watering a pian. That and it's usually sterile with no bugs.

Last time I had them I just covered the top of my soil with used coffee grinds. Got rid of them all in a couple of days. Mixed a bit into my soul mix before planting this time and not had any issues with them. Also acts as a mild fertiliser too.
