Hi everybody, this is my first post on this great forum , I mean I can't stop reading over and over again. This time though I have kind of a problem, I bought a bright new LED Mars II 700w lights to replace my old 550 CFL setup because of what I thought high temperature (about 28C)the new lights arrived and I put it on a dry run to see how it works withouth any plants in the tent (90x90x160cm). I have registered 31C about 30 cm from the light and about 29C on the top end of the 10L air pot. The light it self was really hot and the fan was going on high speed releasing great amount of heat. What do you think ? Is that high temp expected or the LED lights gone faulty ? From what I have read the temperature is relatively low and need of additional heating in the tent is very real

What type of intake and exhaust are you running?
Is it Fresh air pulled from a diffrent room or re-curlicating Air from inside the Grow room or the Tent? Or fresh Air?
are you Exhausting your Air into your Grow room?
How High is your light from the ceiling of tent?

i own many Mars lights and never had them run that Hot for me.
Even when I stuck 4 of the 300w "old style" panels and a 192x3w refelctor in an 4x4.

welcome to AFN as well.

If you have no airflow, your tent will heat up like an oven, need to have some exchange going on, unless its really COLD outside the tent maybe. How large is your grow space?

Hey Treeman just Noticied your Avi I love it man hahah.

and his Tent size is 90x90x160cm

Hi all, thanks for yor interest in my problem and kindly welcoming me in the AFN community. Ok let's get started, I have passive air intake on the very bottom of the tent and I use carbon filter with the exhaust fan . When I close the tent, I can see the walls are "sucked in" so I think that air exchange is ok. The grow tent is in a house in one of the rooms, and plants use the air that recirculate in the house. When I installed the lights the fan was a little bit loud and in time started to blow quite hot air when the case got hot and the Mars unit worked like kind of hair blower, which I found very unusual to what I have read so far. My previous setup of 550W of cfl light was around 23-28C in the same space, and wanted to bring it down, which is not happening. I having the talk with Tina from Mars-Hydro and she thinks the lights are ok but my setup is to blame. I meantime went back to cfl setup, will try to upload the picture

Ooooo ...and I forgot to tell you that it doesn't matter if the light is in the tent or out side of it, it still generates same amount of heat. I mean the case, it gets really hot, and the posts I read, people were saying that the light is kinda cold

and they stick additional cfl in the tent to bring it up a notch . The tent is empty, just finished the grow and scored 180g of dry herb(AK47,Think Different,Berry Ryder, and Auto Amnesia). My problem was the temperature, with the window (in the room where I keep the grow tent )open the temps were between 18C-26C, and the difference in temperature between above the canopy and the very bottom costed me few ounces of good weed :( that is why I tried to change the setup for stable temp so I don't have to open the window for better temperature control. Thanks

What I would do is for your Passive Intake is run some Ducting from the the window so it's pulling Fresh Air. Try to Pull Air from outside your Grow room.
leave your Intake coming in the bottom of the tent. Leave all 3 vent ports open on the bottom of the tent.

what size extraction Fan are you running. Same with the Intake (CFM rating please)

id Pull your Carbon filter out of your tent and when it comes to flowering and you need it then install it outside your tent so your blowing air out instead of sucking in. I Know many people are going disagree with that but hey we're trying to figure out what the problem is here.

for your exhaust is it connected at the top of tent? Your positive your exhaust is pulling and not pushing correct? Same with intake?

also think about putting a fan in the tent blowing the air up and towards the exhaust.

where is your exhaust vented to?

Hi Piotrek, I have the same light and the temp in my tent can easily reach 28C or higher if I don't run ventilation. I've had the temp up near 32C when I've forgotten to crank up the fan in the summer. What is the current ambient temperature in the room you have your tent in?

Hi guys thanks for yours respond , and jackmc that's exactly what I was asking, but I need more people like you that own Mars II 700W model to say " yeah that is normally expected temperature with this lights", or say "no the lights are faulty, they never should be that hot". You know what I mean....if the temperature is what it is I might return it to the shop as product recommended but not fit for purpose, and exchange it for Mars II 400W or it would make no difference temperaturewise, what do you think guys ? Anyone can compare this two models ? The ambient temperature in te room with the grow tent is around 23C (with the window open about 18C)and in the tent with 550W CFL is about 26C. The tent is of size 90x90x160cm and if it comes to it, I will invest in bigger tent (100x100x180cm) don't have more than that space unfortunately, but if I can bring it down to 26C I am happy. Jackmc what is yours tent size ?

Hey Weedman , I used the trick whit the blowing the air through the carbon filter rather sacking it from the tent itself before in the past. The thing is that the air escapes because of the pressure from the joining between the fan and the filter and the smell escapes with it too. It won't work and as far the fan blowing cold air up towards the extraction it also won't work because tha Mars unit uses fans for cooling (apparently) and they distribute the heat very efficiently inside of my tent :(
