And about the Green Dragon thing...Unless you've got taste buds and a stomach lining made of iron, I'd think twice about using Everclear. It makes godawful tasting tinctures. Using 100 proof vodka is entirely more palatable, and you can always add a little sugar and an alcohol based flavoring (vanilla etc.) to your brew. I've made a lot of different herbal tinctures over the years, and could hardly gag them down when I used Everclear.

I had some green dragon with some moonshine.everclear is best imo if ya cant get da shine.when I had one i would take 3-5ml in the morning n smoke a lil bit and i was golden.but I'd do a shot to kill the taste..uhhh,tiz not all that awesome,but it is very effective,LOL! water cure might help some, prior to decarbing it id think. but the tincture I had was hopped up with a lil hash n so on.so just make a potent green dragon.thats what I had.and BOOM! off to the races and feel better street too.

Hi Eyes – Here's what I learned from making tinctures…High volume alcohols like Everclear and Moonshine are capable of dissolving the active ingredients in plant materials at a faster pace, so on one hand, that's a good thing. They are certainly stronger solvents. However, all alcohols, regardless of their alcohol content, can only ABSORB just so much of the active ingredients. Once their alcohol molecules are full, that's it. The tincture will not get any stronger regardless of the alcohol content or the how long you leave it stewing.


Everclear definitely packs a punch on its own and any tincture made with it will certainly taste as if it's stronger, but that's because the alcohol content is higher. The question we should be asking is whether or not Everclear or Moonshine can actually absorb more THC and CBDs than 100 proof. And as far as I know, 100 proof and Everclear are pretty much on an even footing as far as their absorption rates go.


I could be wrong; it's an interesting subject and if you run into any data that deals with this topic, please post it. I'd sure love to give it a read.

Thanks Nuggz, I'm looking to use two cups of alcohol to 28 grams of bud, do you think I'll get a decent extraction with vodka? My plan is to use my magical butter, I saw a video by High Times where she uses 3 cups of Everclear to 10 grams of bud(which seems weak to me) and puts it in the Magical Butter at 160F for 4 hours.

Thanks Eyes! I see you've been keeping busy!! I really should get some bubble bags so I can make some concentrate to make stuff like this with. I feel like that way I'd need to use far less tincture to medicate, and wouldn't have to taste that nasty mess. But honestly I'd just rather make caps and be done with it. There too though it would be cool to only have to take one cap to medicate. I take two to take the edge off, and 4-6 to medicate acute pain.

Yes, I think it should do the job for 'ya. And because you said you experienced an upset tummy with a glycerin extract, I also think it's better to be on the safe side and make up a tincture you can get down without heading to the can to spend some not-so-quality-time worshiping Ralph. Just remember that all alcohol has its absorption limit, and there is no point in adding more bud or trim than the alcohol is able to absorb. It would be really nice if some scientific type person would actually come up with some solid data on just what those absorption limits are. Until that happens, we'll just have to play a guessing game. The one thing I am completely convinced of though, is that an alcohol extraction placed under the tongue is the fastest and most reliable way to get the pain meds into your bloodstream.

Also, if you find you made the stuff and just can't get it down, all is not lost. I watched this video last week on making Green Dragon Sugar.
