Not so fast....sure, you can grow dope (or just about anything) with all sorts of lights. Yes. But grow photo clones with identical everything under this smorgasbord of different lighting tech and you will VERY quickly see what's what. The Elk swears that he grew "pounds" inside a cardboard refrigerator box lined with T-12 shop fixtures. BTW, he was fifteen years old and this was like 1982. Obviously T-12s fluros are not optimal for flowering, but neither is any florescent, metal halide, incandescent, halogen, mercury vapor, candle or laser beam. Those lights just don't have the lumens, lux, balls and K° spectrum. Sure...they will do something. You will have stretchy ass plants with wispy, super light buds, that frankly are pathetic. I will give it up for the mighty HPS and more recently, the CMH, for doing proper indoor lighting duty. But that is so 1990. LED is bar none the way to go. Period. Tattoo that shit. I've personally owned two HPS lights back in the day. A 430w with a magnetic ballast, Sunmaster bulbs, Hydrofarm air cooled hood with the tempered glass panel, and a middle tier ballast....almost identical for the six hundred, except that was running Hortilux bulbs. Identical reflector with the glass, and same ballast except it was for the 600. Very impressive. But that was 18 years ago. Get brand name COBs, or strips/boards. That's it. Build it yourself. It's simple and it's cheap. Go get some Samsung 561-C strips or a pair of COBs or three. Skip the Mars and Vipar Chinese stuff. Get good COBs or quantum boards, a Mean Well driver and a pin fin/sheet for the QB. You can get 4 Citizen 1818s running at 52w each for about $250. They should last for a decade and your first plant will pay for it times 5. That's 1/5 of ONE PLANT. It's a no brainier. Fill your tent with homemade high end lighting (It's SUPER EASY with the right parts) and forget about it for 10 years. $250 is cheap....I paid 4x that much for my pair of nice sodium lights. And they were only on half the time. I run these things round the clock. Watt for watt these modern high end LEDs wipe the floor with everything before them...and they have almost no heat. All lighting is not created equal by a long shot, and I will gladly throw out a fifth of a plant in exchange for the best horticultural lighting that have ever been made. My local grow shop doesn't even SELL LEDs!!!! HELLO??????? And those screw in LED bulbs are not bad if you get decent ones. Cree makes some. This shit is still young too. Give it another 10 years. EVERYTHING will be LEDs. Investment opportunity knocking.
