I know what you mean about the yellowing...it's almost like the rings of a tree moving to the surface and then leaving...
a moment in the plant's life slowly coming to the surface to exhibit and then a better ring behind it replaces it.
Interesting that way.
I get the feeling that sometimes pruning a branch too close to the junction can set these off too.
