Grow Mediums Mini Kratky 1.0 test - All organic......Will it work?

Update:

Growing nicely! 9" tall, and 11" across the leaves! TOO BAD THOUGH........................................ Look at the second pic......

Mini Kratky growing is not over however! going thru my auto seeds looking for a candidate. And, as soon as I have a good batch of worn castings, I'll try another organic run. Should have some good casting in about another 30 days. If I can get the mini to work organically, I'll proceed to trying it in a larger bucket. I may also try multiple mini buckets a real mini " sea of green"......lol!

Mini 2.0 update:

The clone just would not root after 2 weeks or longer. I tossed it. I decided to top the Lost Coast OG x Black Domina growing in the cab, and I used the top for the Mini 2 res. Its been in there 4 days, and I can already see little roothairs developing! Some plants just clone better than others! Also, it may have something to do with the 640ppm solution of Maxigrow and Cal/Mag I used instead of plain water. Already seems the convention of using no nutes for clones may be wrong! Its a large clone too, another thing that is not suppose to be a good way to clone. O misted it the first day, thats it, I haven't done a thing since. I think the next time I put clones in my clonebox, I'm going to use my hydro mix and see if they appear to take root faster.

Those leaves look extremely healthy and that new growth looks like this thing is ready to explode!! What kind of RH/temps are you looking at so far?? I'm battling some deficiencies which I hear may be related to my extremely low RH of <30%, which has been plaguing me for the last 2 weeks.. PPMs are good, pH is good, but every tip is slightly burnt, some worse than others, and the top bud leaves all look like either a strong P or strong K deficiency.. Your leaves are rich and green which is awesome considering the Kratky method is relatively uncharted for what you're doing!!!

Since you're waiting for worm castings, which brand would you use normally?? I'm thinking about putting together a soil mix, since I have 3/4 a bag of FF, 3/4 a bag of Ancient Forest, a quart or so of perlite, and I have plenty of mycos/bennies to throw in to make it rich.. Should I add anything like worm castings or even peat?? I've seen several dozen recipes, and they are all different..

your ppms may be too high for the strain your running. I get the feeling people don't believe my 600ppm limit works but there's its of proof it does. If RH is a problem and you need a quick fix, hang a wet towel in the grow room. In the path of a fan is even better. i've raised RH 10-15% that way in the dead of winter when I had 27-32% RH. I'm also trying this grow, no "flowering" nutes with one res, and a 75-25 blend of Maxi Grow and Maxibloom.

Yes, I'm amazed at how well the Kratky works using hydro nutes! I may have to add a sight gauge to it as I forgot to check the res level on the other, Lucky I caught it at about 1/4 full still.

That top was cut from a plant growing in un-amended organic potting soil. In fact, the soil is recycled!
Worm castings, organic soil, etc, is all new to me really. I just figured if I'm going to use soil, there's not good reason not to! I'll be testing different ideas with the soil too, with the goal of making it follow the KISS principal. I'm a firm believer that the simplest method is usually the best.

If I were to buy castings, I've heard good things about Root Organics. Also, look for the sites that sell worms. Many also sell castings, and theirs will be freshest.

You can add up to 20% castings to any mix, and buy all I've read, castings are the best thing you can add to your soil! Don't add peat of you have enough perlite. Peat isn't really a renewable resource so I'm now trying to avoid using any more of it than need be.

Your shear intrepedity knows no bounds!!! I really wish I had the space and the time to get down on this stuff like you do!! I can't wait for the chance to do an outdoor grow, in all honesty, but I wanted to test some soil mixes indoors first.. If I can get it to work indoors, it should definitely work outdoors, right?!

And by "non-renewable" is it because it IS the fuel for the mycos/bennies?? I would think a compost supplement should be a worthy amendment?? I've got a lot of reading to do, I guess!!! lol

Sorry to hi jack your thread pop but i wanted to bring to lite the importance of the renewable resources. Considering that peat almost wholly comes from canada (where i live) it is stripped from the bogs where it grows and the growth rate is thousands of years to replenish. Its used in gardening to aerate the soil and drive down ph.

Pop i started using the kratky method based on ur results in a 10 gallon and the plant is doing very well. Got a stone in there and im using the canna coco line at about 650 ppm under a t5 ho 4 bulb setup. Ive got a journal called multiple grow techniques in hydro section if ur interested. Will post sun nite again.
