Grow Mediums Mini Kratky 1.0 test - All organic......Will it work?

looking exciting !

Plant still alive and that is cool :D

lets see about those buds later on ;)

It would be great to simplify DWC and loose the air pump. pop how much airspace are the roots hanging in?

Totally subbed. Does rez temps need to be controlled as well?

About an inch right now, and of course the space will increase as she drinks. I'll top up when the res is down to about 1/2 in boith the mini and the bucket. Coming soon! Worm Casting tea!

\no temp control at all! I've seen videos were the buckets were in greenhouses, with summer temp reaching 100F! The key as I understand it is the airspace, and when doing it organic, the microbial life prevents root rot.

So I am contemplating doing an orgainc line of nutes in this grow main reason is I have the Humbolt Nutrients line already plus I think it might be the best of both worlds, plus I am familiar with the concepts of providing life all the way down to the single cell level in soil.

I am also most likely going to use some sort of Kratky like yours to start my seond round in here in 45 days or so. I am doing a perputual auto grow by planting new ones every 45 day. Here in Colorado my wife and I can have 6 in veg and 6 in bloom so I only have a 6 bucket dwc system now. So I am going to try and start getting the stuff together, do you think it would work in a multi site system to start them in like a 5 gallon plastic tote or something of that nature?

I should work just as well with a multi site as with a single buckets. I like the multi bucket idea better, only because if something goes wrong in one bucket, your still ok with the rest. But yes, I'd do a multi-site. I'm excited to see someone else try this method!
:Sharing One:

That's awesome pop!!! If you can get it to work I will definitely give it a go (I also think I might build some of those trays he did in that video at the beginning of the thread for my greenhouse)

Well as you know, this is a learning experience to see if we can do a true. organic DWC type grow. My nutrient solution is compost tea. I've learned, and suspected from the beginning, that the compost buckets will require a res change on a regular basis. Looks like a true Kratky bucket works best with mineral based nutes vs compost tea. Thats ok though! I'm now going to test a schedule of res changes at a 2 week period, I'll drop to 10days if that seems too long, but time will tell.

What led to this was my plant was looking a little droopy, which she never has so a sure tell-tale sign! I examined the roots, and other than looking dirty, looked and smelled ok, but the tea smelled a little odd, so I decided to change the res. I brewed up a compost tea yesterday in an empty quart pickle jar. I put about a 1/4 cup of used soil, a tablespoon of GrowMore organic soil builder, a tablespoon of GrowMore Organic Flower and Bloom, a 1/2 teaspoon of sugar ( its all I had lol ). I just dumped it all into the bottom of the jar then added RO water with Cal Mag until the jar was filled to within an inch of the top. Dropped an air stone in and bubbled until this morning. I drained and rinsed the res. I filtered the compost tea thru a nylon coffee filter. I mixed about 6oz of tea with enough water to fill the res to about an inch below the netpot.

Now we wait and see what happens next! I've only found 2 other compost tea grows of this sort. They had concluded the same, that res change is necessary. My 2.5 gallon Kratky Bucket however is just sailing along perfectly. I looked in the res yesterday to check the water level and topped it up with just Cal Mag supplemented RO water. The water in the res is nice and clear, no sighs of fungi/algae growth and the plant is looking quite healthy.

I have some new clones and when they root, I may pop one into a 5 gallon organic Kratky bucket.

Changes coming to the 2.5 gallon Kratky bucket. The plant in there now is for a test grow. We're looking for autos and this one's not going to. I don't want to mess with photo period plants in the growroom, So I'm pulling it. BUT....I've got a new candidate soaking, an ESD Kush! I'll have one in the bucket and one in the main res. Now that I've taken clones from the photo plant, Its going in the compost bucket too! ( Getting ready for my Worm Farm! )

Might crowd the grow room and throw in a 5 gallon Kratky bucket too. Will know in a couple days. Stay tuned folks!

:woohoo:
