Grow Mediums Mini Kratky 1.0 test - All organic......Will it work?

Cool pop thx for the info. Im tuned in for the results.

Well, I'm just amazed! She's growing quickly! Seems she like the environment. Noticeable growth since the last pic. The root is now over 6" long. I'm brewing a just slightly stronger tea for her now, and will give her a partial res change. A little contrary to the Kratky method but still close enough I think. And after this it will just be topping off. I also lowered the water level to create the airspace today.

BeastMode!!! I am still trying to work on my airstone design, I think I am going to have to get a smaller air pump :/ I will never get a stable PH if there is that much air. But dude I think this will be the best mini grow done yet! As all of the other ones I have seen are done in soil, this is awesome!

Thanks! If this one is sucessful, I plan to try it with a plant that would get larger than this one, maybe a Think Different or an Auto Mazar lol. If you've seen Yoda Buds 32oz. cup grow you'll see why! How tall can we grow in 32 oz of water....????

Yes I have seen that, dude his plant was like 2 feet tall I couldnt believe it. I have never heard of the Kratky theory but I know a lot about the biology of canna and in theory it should work! I have always thought that the roots get air by hanging in the bucket but I always keep my rez at net level because I think the roots like trying to "search" for the oxygen if that makes sense. With an airstone the roots are contsantly like "oh there is o2 over here, wait no its over here, oh never mind it is over there" thus making the 2 inch thick taproots I have seen in DWC's, again this is all hypothectial theory that has only been in my mind never experimented with. I am interested to see the root growth on this one. It looks like that is going to be a massive taproot so my theory may be wrong lol At any rate this is one of my most watched grows period. Very interesting stuff

The airspace also seems to help prevent Pythium. I wish I knew more about the why of that. check my bucket grow often and still no sign of anything nasty growing in it, and I've had my room temp as high as 85F. I'm liking this style more and more. I may try a 5 gallon bucket in the future, using the compost tea and see what I could really potentially grow. If I find this viable, I may do an entire multi-plant grow with this method. Just think, using your own seeds, the only expense would be the the energy to run the lights!

Oh I am right there with you, the biggest downside to growing the way I do now is the noise. My air pumps are friggin loud as crap and they vibrate the whole floor. If there is a viable way to eliminate that I am all in! I am just wondering once the roots hit the water and start filling up if there will be a problem with root rot, according to Kratky though it helps prevent the problem so I am super interested in this for sure!

Mr colorado, not that ive tried this for growing weed but put a thick rubber mat under the air pump. Works for my sub woofer."pher Wiggle"

As long as you maintain an airspace that the roots have to pass thru to get to the water, your supposedly not going to have root rot. And that's one of the reason's for this grow, to see for my self, how well this may work for longer growing plants. Kratky's goal was to grow lettuce which can be ready in as little as 30 days. My other Kratky bucket, posted in my Mixed Indoor Grow thread has been running 31 days now without a problem! And the plant in this mini bucket is growing better than my DWC plants!
