Live Stoner Chat Minimum size pots for outdoor auto's ?

I know when growing indoors that anything over 15 liter pots is overkill...not 100% sure about outdoors tho... but autos dont need big pots like photo plants do.

edit: But hey man...I can be wrong so wait for growers with better knowledge when it comes to growing outdoors in soil.

I think your statement needs to say, " Depending on the strain..." I'd say, yes, many autos would do well on that size pot, but, others won't get their full potential. Check breeder's info to get an idea what size your plants could be. After growing some autos outdoors in pots, I personally wouldn't use anything less than a 5 gallon pot. There's never too much soil, only not enough...lol!

Uh hang on lol, 80 liters pots might be in the overkill zone depending on what you're planning to run lol. If you've fancied some of the huge Dutch Passions or some XXL's from Dinafem then maybe

Depends a lot on the auto, I would go 3gal for smaller autos and 5 for larger. Can I ask why you are growing in containers instead of the ground?

Hi treeman, I live in a sub tropical forest area in Australia (thick canopy, no grow zone), surrounded by cattle properties, it's gonna be a drought summer in my area so going into the aussie bush to grow is very difficult..access, water, not to mention snakes, ticks and Bandicoots like to dig em up, cattle & wallabies / kangaroos will eat them when dry. I'm in a known area for growing, so always a chance they will get stolen, i have some stealth areas where I live and have the weather to grow 9 months of the a year but need to change the grow location for each season and be able to move them quickly if the Po-po give me heat !

My son and I just finished a out door auto grow [ Auto super skunk ] one plant was in a 30 ltr pot rest 10 ltr , the 30 ltr was way bigger , and the root ball was nearly 3 times bigger as well , so I would say no smaller than 10 ltr . mind you it was our first Auto grow .

Nice one henco ! Yeah I know your better off going bigger pots / bags than smaller, and I understand there is a point where too big is overkill for auto's. What were the yeild differences between the 30lt / 10 lt pots ?

About 25 % better , but in saying that I am new to growing as well , all plants on same feed so there may have been other factors in play as well that I am unaware of .

No pot size it would have been the difference for sure i reckon. If the 10L pot was a 30L as well, it would have been the similar size / yield, so long as same water, feed & micro climate. Like Pop22 said "There's never too much soil, only not enough...lol!" , true that Pop22. Good to see another aussie here henco ;-)
