I know this isn't the introduction page, however please allow me to introduce myself. My name is John and I am located in the good ol' US of A.

I have never grown before but I have been reading most of the threads ( almost all) on the best way of growing. I feel as if I know most you already. Anyway, I plan on using the new Vipar 600W that was bought off eBay.(I know that HPS is the way to go but Im not looking for extreme yield but more quality, for which I hear LED is the best way to go.)

I just wanted to see if anyone here has used strictly Miracle-Gro products or is just some over-hyped name brand?

Please excuse any questions that may have been answered but I can assure you that I tried searching through the forum for them.

Welcome, John! Nothing wrong with a Vipar 600- it'll grow cannabis just fine. In my first couple grows, all I had was a 300w LED panel, and I could get 2 oz a plant without trying, and that was a 3x4 foot closet with 3-4 plants a run.
Now, on the Miracle Gro... I'll let this link do the talking:

I would recommend, if you're looking to grow in soil methods, to consider using something like Sunshine Mix #4, or ProMix. They're a stable soil medium, and by using a quality nutrient brand-Advanced Nutrients is great, Canna, Fox Farm, Roots Organic (if you're looking for an organic option) will all serve you well. There are a LOT of options, and twice as many opinions on the subject, but simple is best, methinks. Miracle Gro might do ok with marigolds and tulips, but cannabis deserves far a far better starting point, imo.
Sending some :karma Cloud: and a dose of :slap: as a welcome aboard!
Tokes to you!:Sharing One:

Most people stay away from miracle grow especially for autos because it is too "hot" and can burn your plants. Being a new grower myself nutrients were tough for me to figure out so I went with sunshine mix which from my understanding is more a grow medium than a soil. By adding all nutrients myself, I have better control over what they are getting and how much which has really helped me understand plants needs in my 1st grow.

hope this helps and welcome to afn!

Hey john, welcome. I think problem with miracle grow is the time released nutrient as well.

It may answer some of your questions.

Using the word "Miracle-Gro" in many of the cannabis growing circles is...somewhat taboo.
I think that is because, in part, their products are considered too hot (pre-loaded with fertilizers intended
for less sensitive plants) for sensitive auto-flowers. But also because Miracle-Gro is owned by Scotts
and Scotts is connected heavily with Monsanto. Monsanto is the leader in GMO research...Genetically
Modified Organisms...which many people think is a very dangerous, ill-conceived path.

So, Miracle-Gro is commonly frowned upon by canna growers and is not considered "over-hyped" as much
as it is considered somewhat "evil".

Just my 2 cents.

Certainly not trying to "harsh your mellow" just give you my take on the landscape as it relates to that company.

Cheers!
And Welcome!

Oh, and LED is the way to go ;)

Stay away from Miracle grow.is a MJ killer

Welcome to AFN im new also but been reading alot just to get familiar with the site and it's functions. So far this site is the Ultimate with the AutoFlower strains.
Wow big wow.
About MG stay away from that,if you want to have a healthy MJ plant.
MG don't mix with MJ., this I know.
Theirs a few great options for the soil you want.
like mention by Waximus.

Good luck with your choice and happy growing.:tiphat:

Gentlemen! ( and ladies )

Thank you all on your quick responses and tips. You guys sure know how to make a man feel welcome here and I know I will love it here as well.

I figured that was the issue with Miracle-gro but as always I need a few more people to confirm.

My main goal with this grow is "Less is more." I am not trying to produce for anyone but myself so I would like to stay in the Organic category. Plain and simple organic products only. I guess I will feel better going "Fully" green. Plus some say that the smoke is better ( Matter of opinion).

I plan on following WG's new grower guide and see how things come out. I will most likely write a journal on my grow of Heavyweight's Massive Midget. ( I should've bought a variety)

Again, Thank you all for the warm welcome and advice.

-John

Well, make at least one change and stay away from that MG perlite. just get regular perlite
that isn't "fortified" with nutrients. No sense trying to start with one foot in the grave. :)

My 2 cents...

Get a GOBox off Amazon - It's a preassembled kit of all the nutes you'll need, that IS organic. :)
It's a serious bargain at $40 - for everything.

Pick a medium/soil you think you may like and roll up your sleeves and go to it. :)

We'll help!

Leds now out perform hps by a country mile. Punch Tang into your search engine and see his three quarter's of a pound plants grown under less then 400 watts of true led. You will get a huge yield off of a 600 watt vipar it will blow your mind. I will never entertain the thought of using a outdated hps again in my life. Welcome bro to the best site on the planet

Miracle Grow is a Monsanto company. I won't buy ANYTHING they make. Monsanto is the Antichrist of the gardening/farming world. They are working on an "enhanced" version of MG that is designed to work with Roundup, to complement their genetically modified seeds that is Roundup enhanced.

Will it work for your cannabis? Yes it will, and sometimes quite well, but I'll shit and piss in my garden before I ever buy that crap!

Don't poison your weed and don't support this scumbag company! Oh, they own Scott's too...................
