Lighting My first-ever Autocob grow! (HSO Blue Dream x2)

Day 14. Raised the pots off the ground a bit so I can get at 'em easier, and lowered the lights from 30" to 24" from the tops of the plants. Both plants are working on their fifth node and stems are getting thicker - lefty is taller by 1/4-1/2" or so, and has a much more open structure. Righty is very compact with tighter node spacing.

It's interesting, the odd coloration on Lefty is present in the newest growth as well. Someone said earlier that when they've seen it in their runs of this strain it went away with newer foliage, so it'll be interesting to see if Lefty follows that pattern. Doesn't seem to be hurting her any, so I can deal with it.

The tent!

Looking nice and healthy so far can't wait to see them explode! My tent setup is similar except I kept my fan and filter on the outside of the tent with the duct going from the top of the tent, sucking air out from the tent and blowing it through the carbon filter. My theory is that it will cool my temps and keep smell at the same time and it saves lots of space! Its such a cleaner look, plus more room foe plants, but I'm not so sure how good it'll be when flowering comes around, should work, no?

Yeah man, they're coming along pretty nice so far. Gonna be ready to top them pretty soon - certainly by the end of the weekend, I think.

And yeah, I like a nice clean tent too. I've been meaning to hoist my filter to the ceiling, I'm just lazy and a cripple, lol. So in your setup - is the filter/fan orientation essentially the same as how I have mine *inside* the tent? From what I've heard, filters work better with air being pulled through them rather than pushed, so I'm sure it'll help keep the tent a bit cooler but I'm not sure you'll be getting the most out of your filter. That said, there's nothing wrong with having the filter on the inside of the tent and having the fan outside - that way you still remove a bit of the extra heat-causing gear (the fan) and still have it set up to pull air out of the tent through the filter rather than pushing it through from outside. I still struggle with heat quite a bit - the tent is against an exterior wall that gets sun ALLL damn day, in a room that gets sun & stays warm ALLL damn day. Even with the AC on and the ceiling fan on full speed I'm seeing lows of 77F to a high one day of 90F. Probably doesn't help that my fan is one of those inline "booster" fans that I found out (after buying & installing it) isn't as strong and doesn't move air like an actual exhaust fan does. So I've gotta get a new one ordered here in the next couple days. It got me through my first grow but I can already see it's a big weak spot in my setup.:face:
Ah well. Keep tweaking and it'll all work out eventually, right?

My setup is so ghetto dont laugh lol... filter on bottom attached to fan, fan attached to duct that just sits on the top tent port/opening..fan sucks through tent and blows out the filter.. and yes that's painters tape holding the dam fan and filter together lmao.. it does cool temps by about 5 degrees, mine got up to 88 today and it wasn't even that hot outside, I may be in trouble especially cus I'm running 24/7. I'm running at 300 ųmols and they are only seedlings, so 300 ųmols 24 hours a day is almost 26 mols a day which is a shit ton of light I believe, especially for seedlings.. I will increase ųmols throughout the grow and max it out at flowering, I bought a quantum meter so might as well use it lol.. i haven't found anything specific to cannabis but high light plants like tomatoes yield better with 30+ mols per day.. 3600xlight schedule (mine is 24 hrs) then you x that total by umols hitting your plant (mine is 300) ÷ that total by 1,000,000 3600x24=86,400 86,400x300=25,920,000 25,920,000÷1,000,000= 25.9 mols per day. That's some new shit I'm researching! Lol

Here's a link that has mol intensity at different months in the USA it's pretty cool! Gives you an idea of how much light outdoor plants really get https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...Lp09vpp0SOE6f-rBQ&sig2=QxSSCl8dlnvKBiXylraI6g

It does sound foolish but that shit is real man, day light integrity is absolutely real, whenever you have spare time check it out. @BigSm0 mentioned something about dli and I looked into it. I'll be adding another cob also when I feel the need to, when plants get bigger

Oh, I believe it. I just have a bit of an issue with math, so anything with numbers gets me twisted up something terrible and takes some real focus for me to actually assimilate. And yeah, I'm planning on at least one more cob in the future as well. Right now I'm debating upgrading to a 2x4x7 tent from my 2.5x2.5x6. I think I'll know better after another run or two - this is only my second grow, and first with two plants. Once I can see how much room I'm taking up with the two plants it'll help me decide whether or not the upgrade is necessary. I tend to go through 1-1.5oz a month, so I'm trying to dial in how many plants I need to have going at a time to keep me more in meds with a little bit stashed for a rainy day, you know?

I'm still trying to figure that out too, I've grown 1 plant which yielded the same as 4 smaller plants. Now I'm doing 2. After this one, I will see if 1 or 2 plants is better and go from there. I wish I could upgrade to a bigger tent unfortunately I'm stuck with what I got for a while. If I had the room I'd love to have to 2 tents 1 for photo strains and 1 for autos.

It's basically the amount of light times the hours each day. All these photo period grows and lights they sell are based on 12 hours of light each day. Trying to hit super high ppfd numbers. With autos receiving up to 24 hours of light each day you can inevitably run 1/2 the wattage to achieve the same dli. Twice the hours with half the light.
