No reason for a tent really besides keeping the small in. Raising the filter off the ground would help quite a bit, did you leave any of the vents open? If not there is no way to exchange any air and the fan would be fighting the negative pressure.

Yeah, that's what pretty much what I thought. The problem right now is that the stupid damn booster fan that I have on there now is too long with the filter to fit inside the tent unless it's sitting on the floor like it is now and I don't have the energy lately to like, tear it apart and reconfigure it another way. I do have a vent open but it's on the same side as where the filter is, so I guess I'm not getting much cross-flow. So that's at least something I can tweak and see if it helps in the meantime til I can afford a new/better fan.
See, though, at the same time I wonder if I'm worrying too much. I just went to check the plants before they went lights-out at noon and even though the RH/Temp meter said it was 90F in the tent both girls were perky & praying to the Autocob gods. So does that mean I'm worrying too much? I had high temp issues with my first grow too, and still pulled a couple ounces.
Thoughts? Recommendations for a good fan for a 2.5x2.5x6' room that won't break the bank?
Close the vent near the filter and open 2 or more up top. The path of least resistance. The air is being sucked right out before it has a chance to mix with the warmer air. Opening vents up top will draw cooler air across the top right down to the floor where the filter is. I bet you would shave off plenty of digits on the thermometer by making that change. I did say 2 or more as well. The more you open the less the fan has to struggle pulling air into the tent.
Close the bottom, open 1 top vent. Feel the flow of air being drawn in. Now open a second and feel the difference.

Hm. There aren't any of the rectangular vents up top, but I think there are a couple ducting ports I can open til I get the fan situation sorted out. If nothing else I guess I can close the one on the side of the filter and open the others. I'll tell ya, turning the spare bathroom in our basement into a grow space is looking more and more tempting. The room I have everything in now is more secure, but the heat issues are just driving me nuts.
Anyway, thanks for the advice - I'll see what I can do and report back soon!
Definitely close the vents closest to the filter. The ducting holes up top will work. I think your temp problems won't be problems after you get this sorted.

Will do. Just gotta wait til lights-on at 6. You know, I'd love to see more info on the effects of heat on plants in different stages of growth. I've always read that temps over 85ish are no bueno for cannabis, but I've seen a number of journals on here from people who seem to have similar difficulty controlling temps in their spaces and still put out decent bud. And my plants don't seem to be in any distress, so...am I ultimately worrying over nothing? Are ambient temps really as critical as they're made out to be?
That's a really good question! Worrying about the temps, as I was wondering the same thing. You know me I love to research! Lol.. I came across something called leaf surface temperature. I'm going to use one of those laser temp things to get leaf temps because my tent thermostat says 90 but that doesn't mean the plants leaves are actually 90 if that makes sense? Idk I'm pretty stoned lmao

No, that definitely makes sense. I was watching a video recently that had to do with Vapor Pressure where leaf temps were mentioned, but I was too stoned to take any of it in, lol. Lemme know if you find anything out, because the more I think about it the less sure I am that it's a problem right now (at least in my grows). Neither plant seems to be suffering, so...maybe it's not worth freaking out about *too* much.
Definitely will let you know tomorrow, I will let you know what my thermostat says inside tent and I will test the leaf temp and let you know. I believe led heat is more forgiving than hps heat I would think so anyway. My leaves are still tiny as they are only literally days old might be hard to aim lol

Right on. I'll tell you man, I've never grown with HPS but I've held my hand under a couple at the local hydro shop, and my LED's have *never* gotten that kinda hot. The Mars Hydro 300s I have get pretty warm, but my autocobs, I can hold by the heatsink after 16-18 hours without any real discomfort. If I have the fan aimed at em, they're pretty much room temp. It's ridiculous in the best way possible.
