What up AFN,
Sir Grow Alot here to start the documentation of building my earthbag round house.
for those who don't know what an earthbag house is here is a great link to bring you up to speed: http://www.earthbagbuilding.com/

what earthbag building means for me and my fiance is a mortgage free life, more than anything this is the #1 reason. I just want to avoid as much debt as possible and retire as early as possible to ensure i work to live vs live to work!!!:peace:

in short earthbag buildings are fireproof, bulletproof, sound proof, tornado/hurricane proof and termite proof. plus not to mention stands for 500+ years!!!! and cost a fraction of the cost it takes to buy or build a "standard residential home", with little to no construction experience.

I think more people should be aware of alternative home building techniques and self sustaining living.

My goal is to be fully off the grid in 5 years. Partially off grid in 2 years.

I will begin posting pics starting this coming monday.

I inherited 18.5 acres to work with and we have already cleared a location. I will be digging and burning out tree stumps this weekend and attempt to move on to leveling the pad.

Any Q's?? or comments bring them on!! Lets all learn together!:Sharing One::peace:

Nice. I watched a lot of vids on how to do this and how warm they said it will stay in there. Lots of natural insulation!!

Post us some pics bro!!

Hello SGA,

(edit:two people totally beat me)Im glad I am first. That is actually pretty F-en awesome. As a person who has mastered the art of "Earth Bags," or in my case sand bags. I have two things to say 1 i admire the amount of work you have to do, because it is a lot. 2 That actually a fricking great idea I've seen a sand bag wall take a mortar, rocket, and a f-ton of bullets. I might steal your idea one day, I promise ill give you your citation for it

I've been looking at property as well, with the intention of building an earth bag home to use as shelter for the first couole of years, before eventually building a proper cabin.

Are you pursuing approval / building permits to build your earthbag home, or are you simply building it on your property?

Also how many people will you have to assist with labor? I will be doing the majority of it myself, with a on a couple "party" efforts along the way. Daunting to say the least....hope you've been hitting the gym! Haha

Lot of hard work ahead of you. Much respect. Going green, and old school. Hope it works out. You've peaked my interest. I must learn more.

Post pics as you can! I think we'd all love to see your progress! :peace:

Awesome!
Two words; Rocket-Stove Mass-Heater. Well ok four words.

I am building on in my basement this fall.

yeah, good luck with your project. It sounds great, I am convinced that a major chunk of society simply can't cope with the concept of being mortgaged for 25 years (and all the related work/commitments). My best wishes
