So i have stocked this sight for a while now. Over time i have seen lots of people with problems germing seeds. So i figured i would put my 2 cents on the subject.

So what i do is take a pill bottle about a 1/3 full of water put my seeds in and shake vigorously let set over night. I usually shake several times. when the seeds drop to bottom they are ready. Works great with older seeds. I just germed of two year old seeds with a great rate.

interesting concept bro!:welcome:

Thanks for the comment. Never like scaring the seed.

I just had 12 of 12 Herbie photos germ by dropping them all 1/4 inch deep in potting soil and kept moist. Day 5 and all is well. If the seed is good, it will pop using the old tried and true method. 90% success rate over the years for me

That's awesome. I might be a lone but some times autos have thick shells, or so it seems, and i don't like to worrie about that.

i do have a question for you...the seeds that are older how were they stored? Just dry and temp controlled or in the freezer to slow the process?

I never had luck soaking them like that, they would always rot on me and never germ like they should have.

I store them in a pill bottle with a little rice in freezer. I shake them hard....... usualy by next morning (if doing a bunch) there will be a quite a few sunk and cracked open to where you can see the head of root coming out.

but that's what i love about growing. millions of ways to do it, no ones way is the only way. I've not had a problem of rooting seeds, but again i have read about people planting 1/2 in dirt, that never works for me. I always plant really shallow and back fill when it starts growing.

Hello!

I have a few questions I hope you would not mind answering.

First of all, may I ask what kind of pill bottle did are you using? I ask this because there are many many different types of pill bottles. Are you using the typical pill bottle you get from the pharmacy or an "aftermarket" one that is bought from the store?

Do you begin with leaving your seed(s) inside the pill bottle with 1/3 water overnight, and then taking them out and putting them in with rice, then into the freezer?

And finally, what do you do with the ones that does not germinate that way? Do you try a one of the other popular methods, or do you just throw them away?

I really like this kind of method, since it seems like it is more "stealthy-like" since it is pretty small. And I really want to try this way, but I want to get everything perfect.

I think I am over thinking this like usual.

Hi ducky
I use pharmaceutical pill bottles, but the storage and germing where two differnt questions. I make my own seeds and store them in the pill bottles. i also start the germ in them by shaking the seeds in the water. It just wears the seeds a little like would happen naturaly, and help force water in the seeds. Some seeds seem to take longer than others. With fresh seeds i get mostly 100% germ rate some just take longer than others. If any don't germ i do throw them away. I'm trying to climatize them to my area, and some time germ lots to find strongest
Hope that is understandable.

Oh! Now I understand, thank you very much for the clarification.

So to store seeds, you have them inside the pill bottles with rice then into the freezer.
For germinating, you fill 1/3rd water in pill bottle and put seeds in, and then shake them up a bit and let them sit around until they sprout.

Then just toss the seeds that do not germinate and try again.

Thank you for answering my questions and the clarifications.
